What do ya'll think about adopting guinea pigs from Craigslist Pets?

I got Crockett (orange, black, and white Abyssinian) and his brother, Travis (RIP), from Craigslist 6 years ago when they were babies. A sweet girl had babies from her pregnant guinea pig. Crockett has turned out to be incredibly affectionate and has even picked his favorite human. During 'out of cage time," he follows my husband (whom Crockett has known since he was my boyfriend) around as if he were a dog

I picked up 2 guinea pigs last year. Hans (black & gray Satin Silkie) was separated by the Craigslist seller (a high school girl who didn't have a clue) from his cage mate. She had already sold his cage mate by the time I inquired about him. She sold the cage with it too. Hans was living in a cardboard box, hoping someone would take him home. Bowie (white, brown, black American Shorthair) was given to me by a Craigslist seller after several emails back and forth to check that I would give him a good home. He had lived alone all his life and seems to prefer being single to having a noisy, social Hans for a neighbor. Both were about 2 years old when I got them.

Hans decided to sit on my shoulder and watch TV.

So far, I've had good luck with Craigslist. Anybody else?

Welcome to the thread! :D Oh my goodness, your guinea pigs are absolutely adorable! :love Hans is so very handsome! :3 We don't have Craigslist over here, so I don't really have an opinion on it. :p

Lovin' your piggies!
The animals I get from craiglist are okay, Some are all kinds of jacked up, others live to ages of 10 years. Just matters who you get them from. At least in my opinoin.

They look like wonderful pets!

Craigslist is tricky. I've found some wonderful quality deals, but we once got two hens from there who weren't properly cared for. The hens lived 6-7 years! I'm glad to hear you have had positive experiences!

Today was sunny and the mud was dry (finally). My guinea pigs have been out in the run today, whilst I cleaned their hutch. They must have really enjoyed it, considering that they haven't been out in months, due to the cold weather. :p
I never took any pictures of them whilst they were in the run, but I did take some of them in their squeaky clean home. :3

This is my favorite guinea pig book (though it is from 1997)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0876...-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=0876055277

And this is my favorite "modern" book (2006)
https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/0793...pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=9780793837694

Though neither cover much more than beginner/intermediate pet care details. Do ya'll have books you prefer or informative websites? I'm particularly interested in the care of senior guinea pigs and dealing with gas buildup in my middle-aged pig, Hans.

I've never actually read any books on guinea pig care. I've flicked through some articles online, but the rest I've learned is completely from experience. :p

I have a very old guinea pig named Scruff. The main trouble I have with him is food; all of it is too hard for him to eat, without experiencing pain. :( So, I feed him soft vegetables often and that seems to help him keep a bit of weight on. :3 He also gets a scabby patch on his bottom, which comes back every few months. I clip all of the fluff from around the scabby patch and it clears up really well. :3
I don't really know about gas buildup in guinea pigs, because mine have never had it (as far as I know).
