The Health Care Law.

Well I will speak from my Liberatarian point of view for a moment. One could argue that we all take risks to be on the road. We should protect ourselves rather than depend on the government to enforce responsibility of other drivers, i.e. I drive therefore if I want to make sure I am covered in the event of an accident, so I purchase a policy designed to cover my car and my hospital bills.

Of course this argument goes right back to the health care debate. When would a seriously injured person be denied medical attention because he or she doesn't have insurance, thus the mandates.
I do not know anyone that has been denied medical care because they do not have insurance. I have heard of people suing hospitals because they saved someones life without their consent because they do not have insurance.

hemet dennis, everyone wants insurance, why wouldn't they? It just seems some people don't want to pay for it, which, defeats the purpose.

I and everyone who drives is always endangering your life. Insurance just allows you to be fatally injured/killed and someone paid the bill.

No, a driver having insurance means that I will be compensated by the at fault party if they damage or destroy my vehicle or if I require medical care. A person without auto insurance sentences me to the likelihood of having no compensation for the damages or destruction of my vehicle and any medical bills caused by an unisured driver. (Which is why I carry uninsured motorist on my policy - basically I pay more because of irresponsible people)The unisnsured driver gets away without having to pay a monthly premium or pay for my damages.

Also, insurance works better the more people who are paying in because there is more money going into the pot versus overall risk. If less people were paying in to car insurance, rates might go up because the company is making less money. Insurance companies need lots of people paying in in order to be profitable, they would raise rates if they were not getting enough money in due to reduced insurance policies.

But it costs thousands of dollars to go to the emergency room - If I get hit by an unisured motorist I can go to the ER and will be stuck with massive medical bills!

That is why you get health insurance. I am not forcing you to get insurance but you can so you can have a safety net in case you have to go to the ER.

I have been in the ER twice in the last year. Several tests were done including some heart test thing and by the time it was done I had to pay 200 dollars both times. That is why I CHOOSE to have health insurance.

welcome to the United States of Massachusetts.
enjoy! we have been.
for anyone guessing whats to come , look at the fiscal prosperity of my state, its in the toilet.
and here is how we do it.
In massachusetts you are legally required by law to show proof of health insurance when you do your taxes, this form is sent to you by the insurer.
this is their way of "making health insurance affordable for all"
since I am poor, the IRS says, I am not required to have insurance.
wow revelation there!
next you can go on the state insurance plan, which most folks do, since here it is so gawd aweful expensive, it was $800 a month for me my wife and one child.
so now the state is going bankrupt by subsidising insurance for people like me.
it costs me $3 a month now for my whole family. Which is great, im not complaining, I just think its a terrrible idea to involve private insurance groups.
I was against it from the beginning, but they want to play that game. let them..sames gonna happen when the feds mandate all states follow suit.
your best bet is to hide your income and get back what they have been stealing from you all along.

I think almost all that don't have health insurance is because of not having the money.
And when they start making more money they will buy car insurance before health insurance.

The health care law is aimed at the people that cannot afford it. How many of the top 10% of income earners don't already have car and health insurance ?

RHRanch is right. I am not positive, so don't crucify me if I am wrong, but I think there was a bill during the Reagan administration that said you cannot deny anyone care in an immediate situation(The ER). Economics aside, is it not the morally right thing to do? I would think it's a lot easier to garnish the wages of a live man than a dead man.... and, if it's economically better to let the person die... is it really the right thing to do?

Do you think there are people that don't want to have insurance ?

Sure. There are all kinds of people in this world. I would be willing to bet that most that don't are poor and they rationalize it to themselves that they should not have insurance because they cant afford it, but if they can't afford it, why should I be put at risk of financial destruction? I have been without car insurance before, and I just didn't drive. I paid other people for gas money or I walked or took the bus - and even lost a job or two because not having transport was a problem. But risk other people? Risk a lawsuit? I don't think so, thats worse than just not being able to afford insurance. But really, car insurance is not that high, because you can get really low rates, so I just can't excuse people for wanting to not pay because they "feel they shouldn't have to". If they were not affecting others with thier choice, that would be one thing, but they can really hurt other people and ruin lives....

You bring up two points here.

1) The insurance company will try recover uninsured losses if financially feasible. If an uninsured motorists causes damage and owns a home, a business, etc. the company will seek compensation for the damage.

2) As more people are added to the health insurance system, the rates will start to adjust according to the extra premium (and government subsidies) I think each state (rather than the feds) should decide the specifics about what must be covered and what can be purchased as an option to help control costs, just like auto insurance specifics.
