The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Here's a couple pics of my first hatched LF chocolate "female" chicks and a couple of their black siblings. Ya'll know who the parents are. I've beat that dead horse a lot. They are about 10 days old. I put a towel over the drawings this time. LOL It helped too.

Cute babies Alton, sorry to hear about you hen. Raccoons are so destructive and brutal

I really like him Nellie

I do believe I have hatched my first two LF Choc/Mauve Orp project chicks today! My "bantam" Chocs are from Richard / Pampered Poultry and they are anything but bantam at 7-8lbs. I have them over my 75% English girls. I hatched a choc and a black! I am VERY excited! Pics once everyone is done hatching and fluffed!

wow nice chicks!

Quote: He is perfect as a split!

Pics, as promised!
And I was wrong, they are both chocolate (pullets, YAY)!

For size comparison... The yellow chicks are Ameraucana x Delaware OEs and the rest are bantam Cochins. The chocolates are the biggest of the hatch - although one is hiding under the other.

I am quite happy! Now, I hope the fertility gets better on these guys. I plucked & trimmed butts, but my fertility is still only 30%. I have 3 roos in with 4 hens. You would think I'd have 100% fertility!

Julie, great looking chicks, I hope they do good for you.
Nellie that roo. looks great, it would be nice like you said if he were all black, great type !

I agree Roger. Nellie's rooster is really nice. But, that is not what she said. She said either black or chocolate. I love both the black and the chocolate. The type is what really matters. Large Fowl Chocolate is really rare though. I think she is leaning toward the chocolate side. But, I could be wrong. Anyway, he looks nice Nellie.
