The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Nothing is wrong with splashes in my opinion..but for some reason they do not like them at shows.

I might some day keep a splash hen..maybe. They are pretty. I have enough problems breeding blue and black. I need more experience before I toss in splash. I do not keep splash Wyandotties either..or Ameracuana's. Just the blue and black.

You know isn't that funny? Splash to Splash is Splash every time, yet not a recognized color, where blue to blue is never blue all the time, at best 50% ( and inconsistent in color at that) yet is a recognized color............go figure

I still love splash, it is such a delicate fluffy color

Christabelle, Love that pic...what A colorful group ...I miss my chickens foraging under the horses..they would pick up the hay seed and grain goodies....But like Nellie , uncle arthur moved into my hands too so had to give up the horses...couldnt close my hand around lead rope or reins of a 17 hand warmblood..not a good thing..

Delisha Love the face on that splash and big too! Its not that the shows dont like them, they just arnt recognised yet..considered a byproduct of breeding blue but valuable in breeding programs..someday they will probably be recognised .

Beautiful big Splash Nellie!

You are so right, here we have bred them little different, but alot of the UK orps don't have Cochin looks and are alot like ours.

If you breed blues, a splash can be a very helpful tool.

yes you kind of need a splash now and then to make nice blues. and they would be an accepted color at the shows if enough breeders would bring them. enter them and show them for x number of years and x number of breeders breeding them. not many take the time or have the interest to get a new color accepted these days. I am hoping for a nice big splash to put in my pen out of the eggs Roger sent to me. very excited about that possibility.
