The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

To All:

My post was not to debate what Pure English was...it was to let people know and hopefully educate themselves prior to ANY purchase. I would hate for someone to be taken advantage of because they were like myself when I purchased these babies and just did not know that everything said on the Internet is NOT true. I am only interested in breeding Pure English Orpingtons and with this purchase I did not get what I paid for. When I grew up that was not right. I just ask that breeders not claim to have something they know for CERTAIN they do not have. This type of practice just degrades the Pure English Orpington breed in the United States and sets breeders like myself back almost a year.

Well technically all Orpingtons are English so it is sometimes a trick of the English language that is used. Not all Orpingtons are Pure UK imported birds or European imported birds and those are very different also. "Everything on the internet is True" LOL.

The reason for me posting the pictures of my baby was not to claim he was not show quaility, because I do not show, but just to let people know that just because you buy from someone that claims they are Pure English does not mean they are. By Pure English I mean that the seller knows the background of their flock and knows that they are not mixed with American.

All look like pullets except the black one. It may be a pullet. I just cant tell for sure from the photo. I will try and enlarge the pic
Thanks, I appreciate the input. I will keep an eye on that one. The blue in 3 and 5 has longer wattles than the rest, I was pegging that one as a roo. Pullets would be great since my batch of four 3 week olds look like 3/4 roos. Already have significant combs. From the same breeder. BTW, I've really enjoyed all the pics of your gorgeous birds.

I don't usually share this much information (most breeders don't) but my point is a lot of people think just because they are "imported" they come with a "perfect" tag on them, and that is just not the case. Unless buyers just want pretty yard candy (which is true in most cases and is perfectly fine) it will take a lot of participation and continued culling.
I'm so glad you did share this- as one just learning, I really appreciate your honesty. I think my birds are beautiful, well most of them

, but am always reluctant to share photos of them on here (or share my opinion on anyone else's) because I have no idea what 'typey' really means from one person to the next. I don't show, honestly know nothing about it really. I just know what I like & what I think a beautiful one looks like. And I also would LOVE to have that little spangle!

Just put a splash hen or two in your chocolate pen. You could tell all chicks from the blue mating at hatch. Boys will be blue girls will be mauve. Then sell them all to me... Muhahaha!

Edit** unless you still have your beautiful beautiful chocolate split boy in there. Then it won't be so simple. Again, I'm sure you knew that.

But don't take what I say to the bank. I'd bet my buttons you know more than me. I've only been dabbling in chickens for a little over a year. I have been a genetics student for years though.
Mauve? Now that sounds pretty!
