The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

is there a certain color combo to get get blue splashes? I only have white splashes at the moment but I would like to have a few blue splash also just not sure what colors to breed together to get them.

not sure what Roger has in his pen that is making the splash with blue and lacing. would have to ask him as I have never gotten one before.

Quote: there are splashes with a blue "background"color and splashes with a white "background" color...right now I only have ones with the white background and I would like to know how to get ones with a blue background. I know how to get splashes, blues and all of that but I want a specific splash a "Blue Splash"

I have a pair that throws the blue, blue splash. They are both blue. The chicks are light blue with darker blue spots. I have two now that are about a week old and both look like boys. I have never had a pullet splash. I was hoping for pullets this time. I usually do not keep male splash. I might have to since I can't seem to make a pullet.

Tjhis boy is not the greatest type. Just huge. I cant believe it but he is bigger than his father. Has better wing carrage, color and comb. Broader. He is only six months old. My friend Imogene who works with me on Orpingtons Got these chicks off my largest splash hen and a really big blue boy that was not the best type but very large. The pullets from this cross are massive. If it ever stops raining and the pens dry up a biit I will get pics. We were taking some to the auction this morning and she brought him incase I wanted to keep him. I decided to keep him for a while just to see how big he does get. Unfortuanately I cant make any more just like him. I sold the Cock and the hen had a heart attack right in front of me over a week ago. Don't know why I like gigantic birds but I do.

Some of my 5 week old black chicks. My last hatch of the Spring.

I really needed a good chuckle about now. Thanks Julie!
BTW: I also hatched out blue splash from Rogers eggs, but I also purchased a splash rooster and blue hen from him which produced a couple of blue splash chicks in the last batch I incubated. When they hatched out, I was thinking they almost looked pale lavender which would have been impossible, but they are feathering out as blue splashes!

Blue-ish splash is the same thing as splash. You might be more likely to get it form blue x splash and blue x blue than you would splash to splash, as that can give you diluted birds. But genetically- there is NO difference.

"Blue splash" is like saying the bird's color is made of blue blue blue. It cannot be "blue blue blue" it can only be "blue blue".

I seriously don't know what your so worked up about. We are just trying to describe our birds to each other. No one is trying to say the birds are not splash. Please forgive us for not saying it very correctly. This is just for fun I was thinking.

yeah you got that really pretty splash boy he had that everyone was drooling over.. YOu need to take some pics . I am glad to be able to take of late. I tried taking a few this afternoon and my camera card is full and I can erase it until I get a family photo off for my DH. I guess I could singly erase but that is so boring and time consuming.

we get your point, we can still call them blue splash, its a description of physical appearance rather than correct genetic term. I dont see any issue with using it as a description. I think most are familiar with the genetic part of splash.
