The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Want to hear something funny? Someone in Kent England is using a picture of my Splash hen here to sell Orpingtons

Someone saw this advertisement and sent me this link asking if this wasn't my girl http://www.pets4homes.co.uk/classif...-lavender-blue-chocolat-splash-cranbrook.html Sure enough it is. I just don't understand folks using pictures to represent their birds like false advertising and not even asking permission. I did try to contact the Pets4homes but don't know if they got it.
She is a very lovely hen. I recon if I was going to rip off someone's photo's they would be yours! On the other hand I find it funny that the seller is in England.

Ripping off your picture is unethical as all get out. I have to agree with Christabelle, in a strange way it is a compliment. Perhaps they did not think people from over here would be talking to people over there and they would get away with it.

Julie, same thing happened to me this week...again. This time on BirdTrader (UK). They responded immediately and then also sent links to other pictures for my review. The others weren't mine. They had them on their Facebook page too. On Facebook they had a "like" for BYC. They just come here and steal what they want. Have you considered using a watermark? It will stop the lazy thieves. The bored thieves will remove the watermark, but it takes time.

No one really knows what they are going to hatch.

Beautiful Splash. I can see why they did it.

Does greenfire farms breed for type or dependable egg laying?

Why is it either/or? Type has been determined for the bird's (and horses, dogs,...) functionality. Everything about type ultimately is so that they can reproduce. Type isn't determined for mere looks. Orpingtons should be bred for their dual purpose and they should look like their breed. IMO, one should strive for both. My two cents.

Thought I'd post a few photos of Winston and Clementine, the proud parents. I know I've posted these before, but what the heck

They are indeed lovely. I always liked her ones she called "the O's" very much too.

Dee and Julie..I am a little stunned that somone from UK of all places cherry picked your pictures to use..

I think that the hard work and focus that you both have put into your flocks shows in the quality..I think you both could hold you own in any european competiton ....isnt it funny indeed that even UK recognise your work thou in this bad way....too bad it couldnt have been in a better forum like as an example of look what america is doing..breeders taking steps forward and none backward..but sadly they try to sell birds using others pics instead..

I posted these pics befor but doing it again to show how close Julie and Rogers blues are to german national federation champion stock..its both compliment and a curse haveing bred such nice birds..not sure how you could stop the pic theft..I know sandra hildreth had a problem with people skeefing her white orp pics to use too..even the water marks dont seem to stop people..they seem to find ways around that too..

these are german national federation blue orp champions
used as an example of of how good Roger and Julies birds are
they are very close to these examples..when I first caught sight of the bottom hen, I thought it was one of Jeremys avatars. but she is federation champion.

Lynne, I secretly stole Julie's picture too. (I did tell her at some point.) I used her birds for inspiration. I made a silhouette and put it in a ziplock bag. Taped it to my hen house. Everyday, I'd sit and observe and then refer back to the silhouette. Great learning tool for the visual learner. My SOP book is worn from referring back to it for reference. (Not just the pictures, or the SOP description. I studied the introductory pages too.) I always refer back to Vickie's pictures too. I keep those on my desktop. (She sends me those though so that I can train my eyes.) I learned the true definition of cobby from Jeremy's girls.

This is what is so wonderful about others sharing pictures and I hope it never stops. But it's sad thinking that someone receives eggs or chicks and within no time they realize that they've been scammed.

I'd like to think that the Uk guy/girl that used my picture because he thought they were pretty, but I looked at his other pictures and he wouldn't know a good bird if it pooped on his head. I'm just a prolific photographer and post waaaay too many. I made it easy for him.
