The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Same here, I just got some monster sized cuckoo orps to play with. It's raining tho, so will take pics soon hopefully.

Freezing rain out there just now, but I managed to take some pics before the rain came…not the best, but here they are:

Front left is my only cockerel. He is a hot mess. Sorry to say but one of the worst orps I've ever seen. I gave him a good look over this morning, he's definitely underweight, and his wings are just not right. Seems to have both axial feathers, so not split wing. His lower primary feathers seem to have a bit of a twist going on. His coop was just wormed again (second round of worming in 2 weeks) Perhaps he had a worm load that is slowing down his growth and messing with his wing development? Although non of the rest of the birds in his coop are developing 'off'. He also holds his tail down. I range him at the same time as my main coop and the Alpha Roo does not even bother to mess with him. I think he's just too pathetic. At this point, he's basically an experiment to see if time will straighten him out. I am hatching eggs for the NYD hatch in the hopes I can get a good looking boy for the ladies in this group.

i ended up with a FREE lemon cuckoo britt rooster
a lady spent a pile of money & ordered eggs from G.F.F.
she got only 1 pellet , all the rest were boys

so she was giving away roosters on craigslist
i just had to have one.

so not having any lemon hens on hand i figured i would use my lightest colored buff orpingtons
i now have some 50/50 pullets what i'll breed back to daddy
i guess 75% offspring is better than nothing at all....?

Would it be better to breed best brother with best sister? Then breed best of their offspring to the grandfather.

I found an older pic of our Cuckoo Orpington. Please tell me what you think and what could be improved on.
His comb and wattles seem to be too large, and his body shape and fluff dosent scream Orp to me- but I am far from an expert, and it might just be the picture.... There is a lot of fence in the way. He is a pretty rooster regardless.

well maybe but the boys are away at camp
so the daddy is all i have left.
unless one of the young chicks that i have running around the coop
turns out to be a rooster
i think dad to daughter is the common way it's done
but i'm sure there are other ways too

I'd breed him to a hen with a very rounded, sort of down pointing tail

come spring time i'll remove him & the best lemon girls from the main coop
rite now i have him, a monster buff orpington rooster & 18 females all housed together
i think there are so many girls that the boys feel there is no good reason to fight
