Julie.... I have shown dogs for many yrs... you are paying for the opinion of that judge for that day.... and there will be times for you like this last weekend where your fellow breeders/exhibitors and spectators will NOT agree with the judging. Don't fret... you didn't really loose because you didn't bring home the ribbon. The breeders know.. who had/has the best bird/birds and it will be Them that will come to you for eggs/chicks in the future.
Remember Rome wasn't built in day!... You have a wonderful start to building a HUGE chicken palace... lol We love you Julie..... keep up the good work.
<hugs>
I am so envious of all of you that get to go to these big shows. We have NOTHING, save our local Fairs each summer, and no one here knows the difference between any of the breeds. We had mutts at the fair last year that were labeled as Cuckoo Marans (Coocoo was what was written on the tag) and the judges named a cockerel as best of breed hen.
*sigh* I am very glad for all the photos that people post of the shows.
Julie, judges opinions are subject to biases, as you know... it's frustrating, and disappointing, especially after all the work you've obviously put into your birds. Your birds are some of the best out there, and don't you forget it.
Thanks for all the compliments.
Pidgey yes that was the hen that got Best Variety. Nice to see you and your Mom again.
Kathy that girls sounds fabulous. You better bring her to the show in Indy in Oct. I am going to bring Taylor if she isn't molting and looks good at the time.
The Black hen I took to Newnan is a Favorite of mine out of Charlie.
Irene I am just kidding about Champ. I was'nt planning on taking him. I had a blue cockerel I was going to take and my DH insisted I take him. He loves that boy. Can you believe after I got home and put them up he managed to get out of his pen and the next morning his head was all bloodied up from fighting with his brother that i originally was going to take. Both of them looked awful.
Later to day I will be moving some of them around for breeding.
looking forward to hatching some great chicks for this year. Hope to have some ready by Oct.
