The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I bought local plain goats milk soap and the lady quit selling it. It was great for my allergy skin and I used it in my hair. It would leave it soft and silky. I wish I could get it again. No fragrance and it was a light cream color. Natural. who on here sells it? Gloria Jean

Ok, all this talk of soap but no one has posted the basic recipe you use. I keep saying I want to make some....I currently have 3 books.

The Chamomile and Neroli sounds lovely.

LOVELY chicks everyone! I do not think there is a cuter chick than a chubby Orp chick.

I would love that Joy!

The Chamomile/Neroli bar sounds terrific, there's a herbal tea we sell at work made with Chamomile, Peppermint and Rose Hips that I'm quite fond of, I love Chamomile too. I'm afraid though if I use the Patchouli/Sandalwood bar I might be teased for spending too much of my time in Berkeley.

Send 'em both though, I'm excited to try them. I've thought about making my own soaps and even lotions, I just have never got around to it because I don't have the know-how.

I'll have to get you our new address, we've moved since the last time you shipped us something.

Jeremy - Be sure to send me an updated address so I can send you some. If you ever decide you want to try it, let me know. I'll send you my basic recipe and I'll help you through it.

Tonya - I'm happy to share my soap recipe with you and help you through making it if you want. I don't sell soap, I just give it away to family and friends. PM me your e-mail address and I'll e-mail it to you (I have it typed in Word documents and I can just attach those in an e-mail).

Okay - Enough soap - back to chickens !!!

Nice fat babies Renie !! They are just too cute.

Well, I have 6 chicks and the other 2 eggs have done nothing. I'm going to give them one more day and then assume the worst. I have 8 more eggs going in the hatcher tomorrow. That little splash chick is just the fattest thing !!! They have all finally settled down to sleep for now.

Jeremy - Did you get another mystery egg today?

Joy, I'll PM it to you right now.

This summer when are herbs are flowering and have grown some I will definitely take you up on your offer to help me make some soaps of my own. I have a Rose Geranium that smells wonderful to me that I would love to use! Anyways... enough soap!

No "pullet" egg today that I'm aware of, I checked the nesting boxes when I came home and found nothing. The eggs that were collected all earlier in the day looks like normal beige Delaware eggs, though one had a bunch of bloom that made it look almost a mauve-pink color, very pretty. Honestly, the fact that there wasn't another leads me to believe that it probably was a Orp pullet egg, I'd imagine that after laying their first they might wait a day or so before giving me another. I will be keeping a close watch for them, that's for sure.

I moved Neville outside today to the Orpy coop. I checked him over for any signs of illness before doing so and he seemed fine. His eyes were bright and clear, his come and wattles were red and prominent. His stance wasn't droopy or lethargic. I felt good about putting him with his future girls, plus he was getting kinda stinky in the dog carrier. A lot of his fluff was dirty from sitting down all day.

SO! I moved him outside. I separated the coop with a PVC/chicken wire "wall" to slowly introduce him to the flock. The girls didn't seem seem interested him at all. They came into the coop, clucked around at him and left. He's still pretty nervous about being in a new environment and isn't doing much but hunkering down on his roost. He is eating and drinking regularly, so I'm happy.

No, I haven't taken any pictures yet...

BUT! I promise that this weekend I will snap a few photos of him. Julie wasn't kidding when she said he had great color, he's very very splashy and I LOVE that!

Thanks guys... these chicks are soo entertaining and soo dang cute.

Joy are you hatching in egg cartons or are you laying the eggs down to hatch. I lost 2 chicks from this last hatch because they pipped too low in the carton and I didn't find them in time.

I hatch in egg cartons. I've never had much luck with them laying on their sides. They haven't pipped at all. I had one hatch a week or so ago that had pipped really low on the egg, but I check my eggs fairly often to make sure that doesn't happen.

I am moving eggs to hatcher this morning. Here we go again. I hatch both ways . I put Charlie eggs in eggcartons with holes punched out of the bottom so they can breath, and then I have little mesh lingerie bags that zip up that i put eggs from other pens in so I will know who hatched from who. I prefer the eggcarton but with chicks coming from different pens i never could figure out a way to keep them separate and nothing I tried worked well until my friend Krys who used to be on BYC told me about using the mesh bags. They work really well for me.
