The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

We're so happy to be getting eggs right now. I'm experiencing that "have to hatch them all" feeling- does it ever wear off?

Amy, nope. You will always want to hatch them all.

You really should reconsider breeding Lavs, IMO, you could make some stunning birds with those Blacks!

Or maybe even Chocolates?

For now I'm going to stick with blacks, and work on getting something mottled that resembles these guys in size and shape.
We have enough lavender chaos going on with my ameraucanas

I love the Mottled birds, too. I went back and forth trying to decide whether or not I wanted Mottled or Jubilee Orps for awhile. I think I've settled again on the Jubilees.

Somebody has eggs on ebay from greenfire birds, but they have yellow eyes.

I offered to swap with someone that was looking for blacks to exchange for some of thier (supposed) jubilees, but they wouldn't even justify me with an answer. Guess I insulted them

I got my Buffs from A poultry show judge here in California. He & his wife are both Poultry judges & I got to meet them at the Paso Robles show. He has been raising them for a few years & got them from Terry Brit in Oaklahoma. I bought a trio from him at the J.S. West Breeders sale in Nov. They has been very good layers so far. They hatched out March 25th of last year. The ones I got from Jeremy hatched August 25th so are a ways behind these guys but when she kicks in if she lays as well I will be happy.
My husband has a nice camera but I am, unfortunately, a poor photographer & I took these several weeks ago before they were even laying.

These look about the same as what won at Crossroads! Terry Britt is a Master Breeder of the Orpingtons!

I wish I lived closer to Joy, too! She would probably have to put a guest bed out in the barn though for me, I have a feeling I might be a frequent visitor.
