The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Just took a couple of shots of my pair from Jeremy. I'm thinking they are just a little over 6 months and WOW, what birds. I think he crossed these with an Emu. ha,ha. Pictures really don't show how huge they really are but any of you folks that have them know what I mean. Darwyn flew up on the top of his pen to say hello and Dalhia wanted to take a walk through my old dirty cellar to visit with a group of my German Line New Hampshire chicks and say hello. lol They've been mating for a while now so I'm a little anxious to see when she starts laying if the eggs are fertile. lol

Oh Jimmy, she is just BEAUTIFUL!

They do get really big pretty quickly, sometimes it feels like overnight they just double in size. LOL.

I hope they start giving you fertile eggs soon, is she laying yet? Most of my girls don't start laying until they're around 8 months old. I've got some young pullets at home that are the same age as your pretty little thing and they're just now getting pink in the face. I need to get some updated pictures.

No, she isn't laying yet. His comb and wattles are getting pretty red but her's is still lighter. lol Oh my gosh though Jeremy are they ever to ham's. Truthfully, they don't act like chickens. They are soooo spoiled. I haven't been able to move them outside yet. It warms up a little here then back down in the teens at night. Oh well, spring is just around the corner. It is supposed to be in the 70's this weekend. I'm in no hurry with them. I have so many babies right now of different breeds. I have Buff Orpington's hatching right now that came from your neck of the woods. Linda Hamid sent me 18 eggs, 12 made it to lock down and I have 7 hatched out right now. Today is the hatch date so I'll wait a day before giving up on the other 5 eggs. Not really bad though for shipped eggs.
Thanks again Jeremy, these 2 are just fabulous. And yes, it does seem like they just popped up over night.

With this breed do you have to trim feathers to help with fertility? Thanks!

I've heard that some do and some don't. lol She isn't laying yet so I'll wait and see. I'm not really wanting bushels of these so maybe I will be lucky enough to get a few without doing the trimming thingy. lol
Thanks though for the info.
