The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Has anyone ever heard of this guy joel odell bluehenhatchery say's he has blue laced orp imports and is selling hatching eggs for glo on ebay i ased hi what the bloodline was and this was his replyI was the importer I did not go through proper chanels to get them here in 2006 I did not know the rules and got caught by the USDA i was fined and the alowed me to keep the birds that did hatch I do not have record of what the blood lines are. So they are my blood line they did not come from any big breeder or hatchery and no there are no feathers on their grey legs. more questuins feel free to call me.... the link above this post is the ebay sale...Is this guy a fraud??? i called the usda and they said if they have a seizure, they do not ever let anyone keep anything, and there is usally a hefty fine and prison time involved with smuggling.Whats your all's take on this.

I can probably shed some light on this one, prior to 2006 i had 2 bloodlines of blue laced orpingtons i was working on, no others to my knowledge existed in the U.K. at that time! one line was made using only orpingtons which is the line i still have today, the other was made using a single comb wyandotte male over goldlaced orp hen, of the 2 lines the wyandtte line showed better colour and lacing in the early stages than the pure orps, hens from this line (pictured) went to a lad wanting a long term project of a rare colour to work on, not long after he had the birds he thought he could make his fortune selling hatching eggs, this didn't happen and he lost interest and sold the birds to a breeder in Wales who was selling and exporting lots of eggs, he was sending eggs to the USA at that time and are the most likely source as this colour was very rare then and good ones still are, 6 years on the birds should be looking a lot better than the ones pictured but i must admit blue laced has without doubt been the most challenging colour i have worked on

No way was a Partridge orpington used in the creation of the Legbar Orpington. It took a very clever Swedish breeder over 20 years to create. The LEGBAR ORPINGTON was mentioned in "Fancy Fowl" magerzine when they interviewed one of the top Orpington breeders, David Pownall who is also known to be one of the top and best show people as well, who collected every acolade in the breeding and showing of his Orpingtons.
He bought the LEGBAR ORPINGTON over and won with it at the National and the Federation Champion Shows.
The true Legbar Orpington when bred from, throws the odd white orpington being a throwback in the making of this bird, white of course is recessive black. The same with the Cream Crested Legbar, this breed also throws a white bird now and then being a throwback when the white Araucana was used in creating the Crested Legbar to obtain the blue egg.
The Legbar Orpington however only throws a tinted egg and alas no blue egg.

This is a little off the orps but something very interesting happened the other day (but on the line of the crele color). I have been breeding French Golden Cuckoo Marans for quite a few years and have hatched hundreds and hundreds of chicks and the other day I got a solid white chick or so it appears right now - feather shanks and all. I have never seen that happen before. I am thinking it goes along with the information Sandy posted above..Thanks Sandy for that info.

Hey nellie would that be the mutant white genetic that most marans carry, but its like 1 in 10,000 chicks come out all white,or something like that i seen a guy selling eggs from a flock of them on ebay, but i think they where bcm,so you may have just got something very special, and it couldnot happen to a better person

It finally stopped raining here so I took the opportunity to take a few pictures. My Choc babies are over a week old now, they're feathering in and are starting to look ugly.

The Black chick, if it's a cockerel it will be split to Chocolate.

This one's comb seems to be a bit bigger too... and kind of pink. I also see wattles!!! Do y'all see it?
