The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Ok thank you,i did some more research and seem's to be truthfull, called him also and spoke with him,i was just being very cautious, thats why i like dealing with marc sacre he is the holding station and importer you cant go wrong with his bird's.

Yes that is true, but even the english gl are no where as nice as the german lines, they have the best that i have seen, and where here in the us stuck with limited resource's,im going to cross a gl cochin and breed the feathers out of the feet,I am thinking that is the best lacing pattern i can get at the time.

I wouldn't outcross to Cochin, you'll just make it that much harder getting back to the Orpington SOP.

Adding Cochin blood changes shape/type, adds yellow skin/feet and feathered shanks, like you mentioned. Shape and removing the feathered feet are probably the easiest things to correct but the yellow skin can (and will) haunt you for generations.

The easiest thing to do would be to get ahold of whatever Gold Laced Orpingtons you can and then cross them to some of the Black or Blue Orpingtons with really good type. From there all you have to work on is reestablishing the lacing in the birds, which honestly shouldn't take more than a few generations. Of course you always must breed with keeping good type in mind.

Do not outcross to a yellow skinned bird!!!

There are a few EBAY listings right now for "English" Orpingtons, buyers beware, look at those pictures and make sure you do your homework on where the seller's birds came from. Even if the birds look like they could be pure I would ask outright if they were pure English or crossed with American SOP type birds.

It looks like this year every "English" bird in the US is going to start coming out of the woodworks...
