The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Thanks Jon.

naturespace, I consider my birds Blue Laced, because they carry the Pattern gene. (Pg/Pg) All of my birds have the Pattern gene, the Blues, the Blacks and the Splash. This is what gives them such distinct lacing in their feathers.

You can see the lacing on my Black hen very well in this photo.

Not all Blues have this gene though, I think some of the American lines don't, so they don't have the crisp lacing that you see in the imported Orpingtons.

ETA: An example of a Blue Orp with very little to no lacing whatsoever in it's feathers, I found this picture using Google image search, it is not mine.

That's a nice hen to whoever owns it. But, NO, it's not as nice as yours Jeremy. You have some of the prettiest BBS's period. Keep em' multiplying.

PS, There are others with nice BBS orps. So please, no offense intended.

Went over to my good friend and chicken partner Imogene's house this afternoon so I could get a few photos of the Cocks she hatched or I hatched and gave her from my birds last year. These are two of them. We decided if we both had some to ensure we keep the best and both of us don't have to keep as many we would be better off. These are some wide load and spoiled boys. Just turned a year old this week

This is a blue boy I got her to keep since I kept two here. He is a great color and typey

Julie, just wow. I am always floored by the beauty of your birds. Imogene is very lucky to have everyone of those boys! I REALLY like the Black male in the third picture. I only hope that one day my flock can produce such stunning examples of the breed .

Thank you. I have a few more pics to upload that Imogene took and sent me. Hers were better. Just hope my hatchings turn out this good this year. It was the year of the cockerel this past year. I hope it will be the year of the pullets to look really good this year.

I haven't posted in a while but I do have some out standing English Lavenders (Huge) that were purchased from Marc. These are truly beautiful Lavenders and only get prettier with age! unfortunatly I lost most of my Jubilees due to a pair of bald eagle attacking and killing them with only the rooster and one hen barely alive at the vets! as you can imagine I try to keep my pens safe but once a bald eagle is determined to attack and kill there is no stopping them! My heart is devastated by this! I do have some babies foe sale.

kidcody, sorry to hear this. We had a fox at our main run last night at dusk. I ran out to shoo him away. And that bugger just ran 15 feet and then stayed. I think a LGD is the only way to go, but can not commit to another thing right now.

sorry about your loss kidcody..and the fox are a problem here too, one day a hawk fly right past me after a hen like I wasnt even there..it looked like somone threw a football till it hit her..feathers flying everywhere..we have a dog pen inbetween the chicken pens now to help deter fox and racoon..I havnt seen one yet this year..saw the dog and a rooster leaning back to back against the fence sleeping one day..
