The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

One of my little chocolate bantams has a little bit of white on the tip of his or her wings.....is that a fault? The rest of the feathers that have come in so far are a nice dark brown. (4-5 weeks old....ugly duckling stage... O
nly about half feathered....half fluff)

I have to say even the Lavenders we imported have the worse type of all the English Orps we have. I culled several of our Lavenders that we imported last summer due to very poor type. I am hoping to produce some nice 'typie' Lavender chicks from the imported stock we kept.

We are considering breeding to our blacks as they are excellent quality. Any suggestions which is better, black roo over lavender hens or lavender roo over black hens? And what we would expect with the chicks color from either?

Yes that white will disappear as they mature

Ok, thank-you. The only showing that may be done will be by my daughter in 4H, but I'd like to keep breeding quality birds toward.the SOP. But I'm still wet behind the ears so to speak with the English Orpingtons and I don't really know what to look for. Which reminds me, does anyone have a link to a English type SOP so I know what too look for?

Quote: Yes, at first everyone was going hog wild over the color here and totally not paying attention to form and stuff. But doesn't that bird have feathers on it's feet or it is my glasses? Looks like a Cochin. In fact it's shape and all says that to me.
Your eyes must be excellent since I do not see any feet..I must be blind.

hehe Well I see feet, but that white stuff sticking out might not be feathers. Regardless, the shape and the tail look Cochin. Keep in mind that this might well be a show winning Orp over there. Their show winners don't always stick closely enough to their standard for some folks' taste.
