The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I've done the 'get to know the breeder' from this thread. I've been lurking and decided to roll the dice and get some chicks from Nellie!! I love the Jubilees and Partridge colors. I have some UK Whites also. The whites are hefty little birds!! My journey is just beginning with Orpingtons I've had TSC hatchery hens for the last few years, so I'm not a total newbie. I've decided to jump into Orps because they are so beautiful. My current babies have been fun to watch. The Partridge boy has stolen my heart. He must talk to me every day. I saved him from the darkness one night when he couldn't figure out how to get back to the inside. He jumped into my arms to save him and he's talked to me ever since. He's a big boy too. I will continue to listen and read up, so I can better the breeds as best as I can!!

It can not hurt to try.  I have done it lots of times but I make sure that one roo is much younger than the other.  That way the older roo will establish his dominace early and the younger roo will not challenge till much later after they have become buddies.   They might have a spat but they usually work it out,  I have rarely had it work if I put 2 adult roosters with a flock of hens, and never if the hens already belonged to one of the roos.  Good luck!  :)

Thanks for your input. I am thinking is is just a bad idea in my situation. Looks like we may have to expand the coops ahead of schedule. ;)

Im so happy you got some from her, Nellie is one of the great ambassadors of orpingtons ,,treats people with great respect and SHE helps people with questions and assortment of things in her busy day..Im also so glad that you got some whites..yes they are hefty indeed..They need some shepherds for the future ..they grew to critically low numbers in part mishandled and in part lack of interest in them on both sides of the pond....Lot of great orp minds in here..they have info that is so helpful..everything from color flaws to raising orp chicks what works best..

Thanks for the answer on stress barring- I couldn't find anything on it. And what is the fretting that was mentioned in lavenders? I can't find answers on that either. I'm learning alot just reading posts on this tread

Fretting is like ticking- usually seen on lavender males in their "boy feathers"- along the wings and shoulders mostly. Its not a good thing, that is one reason we constantly breed back to blacks- to improve feather quality and eventually (hopefully) eliminate the issue.

Updated pictures of two pullets from Nellie. i love the lacing on these girls and they are such a soft shade of blue!

This little guy is all feather. He is so incredibly fluffy, I just can't decide which is a favorite!

This one has got the biggest chest and looks cartoonish, since he leads with his chest as he walks.

Thanks Nellie, for passing on some awesome type!
