The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

I second that. DE is a dessicant and nothing more unless you use the type for pools which will harm your birds.

A much better dust bath is wood ashes. At my old house I had a "burn pile" spot that I'd burn wood in, and after it all cooled they LOVED dust bathing in the ashes. Never had mites or anything. But Dragon Lady's regimen is really better. Just saying, if you refuse to use the Permethrin, at least let them dust bathe in wood ash.
well being so far north we do burn wood to heat the house
i like it at about 80f in the kitchen most of the winter

so wood ash is no problem
i can add a litter pan of ash to each coop
& let them go at it

thanks

Here is a picture of my Large Fowl Chocolate Cuckoo Rooster I took yesterday. He is only about 6 months old, but thinks he is a stud

Hoping to hatch some chicks from him very soon. He is acting interested in my hens already

pretty boy!

i save up garbage cans of woodash over the winter..woodash kills lice and mites..that was how the old timers treated birds and would build dust baths with it..one lady had plastic kids swimming pool with peatmoss , rosemary and woodash ...quite the combo but it worked...most buggs cant stand the scent of rosemary so they stay away..that was a componant of vetrx an old catch all treatment..lice ,mites. roup...they treated everything with the vetrx...

Just got a call from the girl I got my Eng lemon cuckoo chicks from last week. She said she's selling out & wanted to know if I wanted to buy her lemon pair- I'll be picking them up in about an hour. I just love the lemon cuckoos! Will post pics later to see what ya'll think of them

LOVE him. Generally not a fan of the cuckoo pattern but he is gorgeous.

Julie, is Turks related to my favorite cobby boy of yours? Is that guy still around?
Grandson. No I sold him. Hoping for something good this year out of what I have hatched. Will let you know how they turn out. I am thinking of breeding Turks over my big blue show hen and see if I get any big boys with improved type but the size. He may be to big to get a egg fertile. If my blue girl ever starts layng again. She went broody on me months ago and hatched off a group May 1. She got them up six weeks and starting laying again and now is setting again. She is on nothing. If she starts laying again before she molts again I may see what happens.
