The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Thank you all for your kindness - and in the end, I already love the "golden girls" I have and will keep them. And perhaps in a year or two I will add some stellar beauties to my "great personalities".

Phew! Finally moved my guys to the new coop. There's still so much to do!!! They don't seem to mind. Compared to their brooders, they are in a five star resort. They just got so huge so fast.

PLEASE pretend that there's no mess. It's muddy and yucky out and I am having a hard time motivating myself to gather the junk.

Just a couple of pictures of the gang. They were hard to get because they were zipping every which way, checking out the new space...

I love this little guy. We ran out of creativity and are just calling him Blue...

Julie, I didn't get a picture from the front, but this is the black cockerel you wanted to keep an eye on. He's Johnny Cash.

I love how they aren't the least little bit shy.

Now, onto the run...

Edited to fix my terrible spelling.

Tenn they look great. My only suggestion is that they need a bigger feeder. If you will get a really large on they won't waste as much food. I am talking 3 to 5 gallon. They can all have a chance to eat more as you can't get many around that small one at one time and I bet your filling it several times a day.

Love Johnny Cash. Nice short neck and compact body. Bet he turns out really purty. They sure aren't shy. Love the way they are right there at you.

I tried to take a pic the other day of one of my fav cockerels but he stayed right at my feet. I would move and he followed.

Gosh, I want that coop, too! I need to do some revisions on mine.

Sorry I have not been around much, I have been up to my eyeballs in all sorts of things, but wanted to let you all, especially Joy, see how much my kids have grown. Here are pictures from yesterday, the two black pullets, max and Impy are just a few days shy of three months, Skoche and Gus are a week younger:

Skoche- hard to gets pics of her as she is always coming up to see me:

Love your Orps! Where'd ya get them from?

Thanks!
I love it, too. I'm pretty sure that if I gave the coop away, I'd be shopping for a new husband soon after. We have a pretty good system, now. He loves to build and I love chickens. We could very well end up with a compound. It's so funny to think that we were sure we had all the coop we'd ever need when we built a 4x4 one this past summer!

I have fifteen chicks. Eleven were hatched out of Julie (bamachicken) eggs and four I got as chicks from Joy (justuschickens). They hatched a week apart which helps me tell them apart, for now.... This is my first experience with breeder quality birds. Their personalities are just awesome.

I have a feeling if you could hang out here a couple of days you would save me a few hundred learn-the-hard-way lessons.

I had to go out later that day and buy a big, hanging one. I thought that the three small ones would work for a while, but they all INSISTED on eating at one. I left one small one out because they still can't all eat at once at the big one. I also found out that their waterers needs to be FOUR blocks high to stay clean more than five seconds.

Johnny is great. He's so laid back, but was the first to crow. It's been great watching them grow. They seem to change every day.

Haha - You know how "Small" coops go, you think you aren;t going to get addicted and this lil' coop'll work just fine ....few months later you have 3 coops ...with chickens coming out of your ears!

If anyone here is as old as me and can remember back when the world was still flat, you will remember how doctors use to recommend watching gold fish to relax and lower your blood pressure. Well now days any really good doctor would just recommend looking at all your nice chicken pictures, especially the blues, and have a cup of coffee. I have found this make me totally deaf to request for me to get off the computer and do something.
