I have two questions. I have come on to this topic at a stage where I feel it'd be impossible to read through everything so am just going to ask. First is I was wondering if anyone has imported and made use of the European BUFF Orpingtons. A quick look through indicates that the blacks have made it over but the buffs? Also wondered if there is a thread where a comparison of the UK and APA Standards is being discussed as well as the possible exhibiting of the UK type here in North America? Saw the article in Poultry Press and without starting a discussion not desired on this thread will say that I am extremely puzzled. If someone wants to respond in other than a public way I can be reached at [email protected] and I respect private communication as private.

Some that have UK blood have shown and done very well. As far as the article in the poultry press.....that person for all of what he has to say on the UK vs American birds has put a bid in on and tried to buy some UK birds so I guess maybe he likes them more than his article would suggest. You might want to ask Mr. Decker and Leonard what, if anything they had to say on the matter.....seems to be some discrepancies in Mr. Hall's article on what did or didn't happen.

I have UK blood in my orp flock....even when I didn't I culled towards that look. They are not a fad as he said in the article....some of us prefer that look and always have.

As for myself, I only have English blue, black and splash orpingtons. They are not a "fad" for me. I love my English birds and would love to import more varieties of English Orps in the future.

Dave, if you're considering getting English birds, I would definitely recommend it. The birds that I have now are only 1/2 to 3/4 English lineage, but they still exhibit the beautiful English type and they really are amazing birds to see. Everyday I just wonder at how a chicken could be so pretty.

ETA: The Lavender and Chocolate varieties have also been imported into the states, I believe.

I think it is easy to see the difference between the APA Buff Orpington breeder and the Buff Orpington breeder for the Prince of Wales, bred by my favorite Buff breeder in the UK (Karen Power and Power Poultry).
David here is what everyone is telling you why you want a Buff from the UK. I will just use a few pics to point out the obvious differences instead of going into the details.
