In my flock, the ones that hatch out that baby blue are the ones that end up with the most stunning lacing- would be lovely if that were true for you!

By the way, I'm assuming it's wry tail but is that a genetic thing? If so, how did he get it - no one else has it? Or is it possibly a nutritional thing when they are young - like wry neck? His started when he was young, about the time the tail started to fill in. He was very late to feather in. I think I've read the English ones are so I kept an eye on him to see how he would turn out and let him live in the backyard. He was running around big and naked for a while. He had some wing feathers but no back or butt feathers. Anyway, for one who started out so ugly, he turned out a beautiful color when he finally got feathers.

Sorry about Petra. I hate losing them too. I cried when that dog killed my best chicks last year. That was a tough one.
You do get attached to them. Especially when you give them names.

Funny Story to lighten the mood. My sister who lives in Jacksonville Fl called me telling me about taking her 2 year old granddaughter to the Clay conty Fair. She said she loved the chickens an livestock. She said they had a chicken there like yours that was huge, a black Rooster. I said do you know who's it was? She said no but she took a pic and went on and on about big he was. I got to thinking about it and called my friend Rusty in the same area who has a very big black boy from my birds and ask him was it Mongus. He phoned me back and said it was. My sis got a kick out that. It is a small chicken world. I saw this boy at the Sunshine classic and thought he might win the show. He was so big.

Ruth I don't know the answer to your question on the tail. I have never had one with wry tail. i couldn't tell in the picture. Someone else might have the anwser for you. Charlie was very slow to feather in.

I've had a few with wry tail before. Nor Orps. Looks like his tail leans to the right noticeably. VERY HARD to breed out once you get it in your line. To me it's a deal breaker except under the most dire circumstances. like NO way to replace a roo and ready to cull like crazy for the next few years.

I have a question about breeding. Do the blacks have hidden traits for nice lacing that doesn't show up until you cross with blue? I have a blue roo with hardly any lacing, but crossed on my black Bama hens, have had a few pullets starting to feather out, and one of the older ones is really showing some strong lacing, WAY stronger than the roo's. Is that lacing coming from the other side?

I have just ordered olive oil, palm oil, castor oil, coconut oil, shea butter, a mixer stick, a pigment sampler pack, a 5lb loaf mold, and fragrance oils in chamomile cybilla, coconut cybilla, morroccan fig, and pineapple cilantro. All I have to say is that if my lights get cut off for non-payment, I'm blaming it on y'all!!
