I have wanted this breed for a year and a half as soon as i saw them i fell in love with them

The Black and White Orpington and other Orpingtons are beautiful chickens but the Buff just stood out at me ^_^

you have got to be frickin kidding me?!?!?! I have an orp showing signs of marek's. does anyone know if I vaccinate right away I can keep the rest from developing it? it's a long story and will share once I have ALL the answers. dh is going to start communication as I am getting no answers right now

they were in a brooder next to my other chicks and I have lost 5 of those(lameness, paralysis, death.....never had an issue EVER so I didn't think anything and was from a respectable source). I moved them but now one of the kiddos I got from Julie is acting drunk and having a hard time standing. I "know" where is came from but need to see if I can save my babies. anyone with experience?

Are you sure it is Mareks? In a brooder? Have they been exposed to adults?

Why I ask is because I had a severe case of Botulism with a young chicken a couple years ago, and I was able to save it. I have had cases since then, too. Usually when it is wet from rain, with standing puddles. Any chance they got into moldy feed or rotting vegetation?

I am so sorry you are going through this. It is heart breaking.

Who are you getting them from? I'm wanting to get some Buffs from Jody. I have one Buff pullet(?) from Jody, but would like to replace my Hatcherystock buffs with Hinky orps.

This is the IMPORTED ENGLISH Orps thread. Is that what you are talking about?
I do not believe Jody has these. On the other hand, I could be wrong.

I don't know if Jody imported or not? I was just stating that I wanted to get some from Jody.

all affected chicks are in brooders. no moldy feed. no rotting vegitation. I have a tolbunt I thought had a broken leg it survived so far but still can't walk and vibrates horribly. I have a lav orp that has partial right side paralysis, eye on one side half closed and limps on that same side, sits frequently. not getting better. I have others, one other still alive(can't walk) 2 others dead(first symptom was leg paralysis) all with symptoms of mareks. the booder on the other side of the room has had no losses, it contains my own flock chicks and a few feed store chicks and chicks from Joy. I had someone that was going to take ALL my surplus chicks but now I am afraid to infect his flock but at the same time I don't want to cull if not needed

Krista, a thought...

Vitamin B deficiency can look like mareks. Are you feeding medicated feed? If you do feed it for prolonged periods it can cause these deficiency.
