The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Harry thank you.

RR I would love to see pics of your Hoss offspring. He was my husbands favorite. He named him Hoss. I would love to see the black pullet. Hope you get to show some of them. Tell Carol I would love to see some of hers again too.

Well Hello Bama.. It is good to hear from you.

I will always be greatful to you for starting me out right into the world of English Orps. They have brougth alot of pleasure to me and my family.

I too have a few dark blue hens this yr. How do I go about improving their color?? I wonder too if someone could use the darker hens for other projets?

Irene that makes me happy that they are bringing you as much pleasure as they do me. It just thrills my heart to watch them wandering and scratching around the yard. You might try breeding a splash male over the the dark and see what happens. The thing about the blues is you can breed two blues of the right color and still end up with varying shades of blue with lacing good and poor lacing. The blues are not for the faint of heart or impatient. Blacks are beautiful and of course much easier but I do love the blues and always have.

I also appreciate those who helped me in the beginning.

We are supposed to have 30 mph winds here today so we have been securing everything this morn..

P.S. and on the blues Matt Hanson has always encouraged me to keep the ground color right and not get it to dark. I work towards that. I have a lot of males with really good coloring this year..

I have a question about "uneven blue" on the blue hens. Some of my nicest hens have feathers on their cushions that vary in color, some light blue, some normal blue, some with black splotches on them. Is that a problem color, or is it okay to breed forward with it. I have a 100% English roo that I am starting to hatch babies from, and want to pair him with the best hens. I have a LOT to choose from, like twenty or thirty. The rest will likely be sold this week. Any advice or guesses appreciated. Thanks

Bama Chicken, I to "approve" of your new up and comers! WOW!

Are they 100% English lines?

Like OSUman said, you want an even shade of Blue throughout with each feather laced with darker Blue/Black.

How did you get so many girls Patty??? Are they all English?

Hi All; Hope everyone had a grand Thanksgiving. I wanted to share some of my beautiful Bama Chix. They were hatched the first week of April this year, and I absolutely LOVE them all. Julie, these kids are the love of my life. I am thrilled with how they are growing out. My favorite pullet was in her nest box laying so I didnt get any pics of her, but she is a basketball splash girl that is just stunning. The blues are simply gorgeous and eye catching for sure.
