The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Pretty blue baby hatched from Rebel Yell egg:
I am learning how to take better photos. Not great..but cute.
The momma photo is the broody BR cross I put the English Orp eggs under. I added 4 sexlinks after the eggs hatched, to her brood for my egg layer pen (they are Golden Comets - I have "The 4 Comets"...LOL).

frizzle orp?

There's not a frizzle on the place. I have some broodies that do a good imitation, but that's as close as it gets. Maybe it's the humidity?

Secrets in the Sauce... lol

Hmmmm... wonder if you could bottle that and sell it?

I'm trying to hatch a splash to add to the mix. It seems that using my blue boy over my black girls is making mostly really, really dark blues. Even when I cross those back to blue, their offspring are still pretty dark and just don't have the lacing I'm after.

If your part of the UOC their is a great forum or blue lacing.. You might not have to be a memeber to read the info. . Just google United Orpington Club. I doubt you are going to get what you want breeding a blue / black together. YOur best colors will come from Blue to blue and you need the lacing in genes

So got a email for the the person I got the eggs from, he says he has gotten about 6 chicks that are Lav out of the same pens I got my two from. Said it was in his Black hen that she has a hidden gene?
I don't know but I love the two of them, I was going to take a few pictures but they think I'm out to kill them right now. Every time I walk into the barn they hear me coming and run around crazy. I'm thinking of putting a radio in with them so they get use to humans.
I cant spend a lot of time holding them because I'm allergic to chickens.

For Lavender.... BOTH parents have to have the Lavender gene. Many breed black to lavender, resulting in black offspring that carry the lavender gene. Mating them together - you will get some lavenders.

Hey Bama :) Good to see ya. Glad you caught that I was going to tell her the same thing about the needing to breed 2 blues to get the splash.

I got my ND doe bred.... Hoping she is pregnant... I want to make soap :) with some of that milk.... IF she has enough... she is BIG and not due until August... soo could be triplets. Or she could just be FAT!... haha
