My first chocolate babies! Eggs from LF Black Orps, sired by Mr. Chocolate.
The chocolate gene is sex linked. Brown chicks = female. Black chicks = male (carrying the choc gene)

Hello everyone in the Imported English Orpington Thread. I just wanted to say Hello i'm still very new to chickens but I can already tell i'm going to enjoy this. Everyone's pics on here are just awesome. I hope to make a few good friends here at BYC as I'm sure i'll need some help along the way. I just can't stop looking at Orpingtons I really enjoy this thread in particular.

Best Regards..Chad

Welcome Chad glad to have you here, its been a pretty good hatching season for me but only kept 6 pullets so far for breeding & one young roo. I have been off here for a while so hello to everyone.
This is my only pure chocolate pullet (bantam) I have now along with a chocolate rooster. LF English are doing great I will try to post some new pic. this weekend of my young ones.

I recently bought some Lemon Cuckoo and Lavender (Self Blue) eggs at auction. The dozen (6/6) closed at $9.14 plus $12 S/H. When the eggs arrived they were UPSIDE DOWN in the carton. Some were broken. the eggs were shipped in a free Priority Mail shoe carton. The eggs were not individually wrapped, but had a strip of bubble wrap under and on top of the eggs. I tried communicating with the seller, but got nowhere. eBay refunded our total cost.

The air cells are detached, but we set the remaining eggs. If we get chicks I plan on sending the money back. My intention was to bump the listing, but won at the low price. If we did not like the hatched birds, we could have sold them as layers etc later.

Only once has anyone claimed my eggs broke, and we never received photos of the actual broken eggs.

Should I have been upset with the eggs being shipped UPSIDE DOWN?

Here are photos of the carton, at our Post office.

ETA: I fully understand what the USPS can do to hatching eggs. Have recieved many broken eggs over the years. Broken is understandable. UPSIDE DOWN is not!

He went into his second moult a week ago and now has no tail feathers. When he gets through it and looks all awesome again I will take another pic.
I thought I would repost this from page five of this thread so any of you beginning Orp breeders will see that you dont cull to quick. Charlie was way dark but finished up with a great color. He got better with time and produced awesome offspring. He now resides in Washington State with the UOC secretary who has been able to successfully AI him to many birds since he is four yr. old and had become very picky in breeding.

Oh man dirty eggs... YUCK! I could never ship anyone dirty eggs... not even for FREE! Need to send that seller a link to how to collect and ship eggs properly. Geesh Whizz! Maybe you can make a positive experience out of this :)

I sent him a link to a Facebook group where i posted the photos and suggested he join us in discussion. He responded with I was harassing him. he will not admit he packed the eggs upside down. i am okay with the dirty eggs and the broken eggs. Just not with detached air cells from riding upside down from PA to Arkansas.
