The IMPORTED ENGLISH Orpington Thread

Hey, I found a link for Chocolate Orp standards. Not sure how current or correct it is but it is a starting point.

Hope all has a wonderful day (and stay cool!!)

I think that proposed standard is off for the legs. They are not what I would call light.

The black orpington has black legs; the chocolate gene modifies or changes the black pigment in the feathers and from what I have seen in the legs and beak also. The beak is chocolate and the legs should be referred to as a chocolate slate color.

I would think the golden laced should have reddish bay eyes just like the buff. The golden has more pigment in it's body therefore, I don't think gold eyes would be appropriate.

Deek, a lot of chicks start out with green eyes and they change color as the bird matures. I have seen chicks eyes not develop properly if they are kept strictly indoors, natural sunlight does have it's good qualities.

My business partner has the UK standard, I will have to check to see if they are accepted and get the "official" word. The US SOP for golden laced dottes is reddish bay.
