Perhaps you should state the measurements of your cage you are staging him in now so the experienced will be able to give you some guidance. Just trying to be helpful.

Thank you Guys!

The crate he's in is 19" w 24" l 21" high. I'm thinking that a standard show cage may do just fine. I do have my great dane's crate, but that could be a bit much. Don't want the judge to have to climb in there and catch him, might be fun to watch, but not in our best interest.

He is a very nice color of Blue.

Lynn could you tell us again about those boxes you found for eggs shippers and where to find them. I am really interested as it seems no matter how well eggs are packaged they get banged around pretty hard . I would love to be able to get some to send to a few folks that are going to ship me eggs

On a slightly different topic , but pertaining to Orps and particularly Eng Os.....Does anyone use a creep feeder set up for chicks and young birds? I have a 6 x 6 area that is fenced off from the biggies with a sliding door, but open to whatever size youngster whom I feel needs feed. Boy, do the youngsters take advantage of it for a few weeks. A chick with a mom has no problem, but those newly introduced babies can go really hungry for a few weeks when they are picked on by older birds. My babies run in, and stuff at least 3 times a day without being harrassed. The payoff in growth is enormous. Anybody else use a creep???

We've done something very similar to this at times in the past and it worked beautifully. We've also used the watermelon boxes which for us were available in two sizes. One size was huge and provided a lot of floor space. These worked well and when they were past a point of being useful they were easy to dispose of. Two very good ideas offered here according to our own experience.

I finally got some pictures this morning.

This is Muffin, short for "Fluff Muffin". Bought him from Marc last year. He is right at a year old now.

And this is Dafney. She is 5 months old.

Julie,
the medishippers are used for perishable items in hospitals...they are perfect for hatching eggs ..the walls in some shippers are almost 4" thick..it protects eggs from severe temp changes, and so protective that eggs have a 100% chance of arriving safe and sound to your house ..the inside of the medishipper will be same temp when it arrives then when it left breeders hands...for some reason they are cheaper to send full than standard post office box..super light weight ..they are not very big but lot of eggs can be packaged if bubble wrapped see wrapping hatching eggs for shipment., one freind uses sawdust to tuck eggs in all bubble wrapped...it works perfect..air cells from air pressure will be slightly loose but not as bad as usuall.

if you know anyone who works in a hospital or clinic, you can have them save them for you..bariatric centers, act clinics or walk in clinics, pediatrics, they are used to keep packaged vaccines correct temp and protect from any possible damage..the vaccines never opened in shippers they are removed packaged and refrigerated.a lot are for insulin.you can run an advertisement on hospital web site . or ask a freind that works there to save them for you..they come in different sizes.these medishippers are thrown away so they will probably be more than happy to give them to you..

i have a pile to be sent down to a good freind, just need a minute to do that..my back room is getting full of them..housekeeping staff hand them to me from all over the hospital..once they know you want them..people are pretty nice about it..its a win win, we needed a safe transport for eggs, and they need to get rid of them.so please put up requests for them.hospital staff is saved from a trip to the dumpster.
