The Legbar Thread!

Does anyone have an opinion on this chick? I know everyone was saying the very dark chicks with head spots are boys but this chick has a small head spot and eye stripes. I just hatched it yesterday and I'm not sure what to think...

thats a "Dark" male. his head spot is small. but still a male, females have a well defined headstripe. boys dont

I dont think we have determined the correlation between chick and adult coloration yet, so keeping track of your various chicks, both tagging them and with progression photos, will help see if there is a correlation and if there is what kind.

I believe I have found the correlation, as you may have seen my prevouse post. I believe the "Dark" males hare homozygous for double barring, but this gene will not affect or will not dilute Eumelanin(black feathers, see Dark Barred Rocks) and also will not Dilute Pheomelanin(gold barred feathers) as much as "Light" males, seems..

this following chicks further proves this Theory(I would love to see more pics of this boys). as you can see the "Light Barred" male show a marked diluted barring pattern, yet the dark male does not
Just took this photo of a pair of two week old male chicks. One was blonde and the other dark at hatch. They are the two to the far right in the picture. The dark chick (furthest right) has much more distinct markings on his wings than the blonde one. They most likely have different mommas.

can you please post more pics of this boys, this will further assist me with my Dark vs Light boys theory

Does anyone have an opinion on this chick?
another way to see he is NOT a female is the fact that Females even dark females will have a clearly defined back stripes(wildtype chipmunk stripes) males will lack this.

see the following dark female with a small headspot. this is clearly a female
I can officially post on here! I had my first Legbar hatch ever today!!! I know I have 2 males and am pretty confident that I have 7 females. Here are some blurry pictures. Let me know what everyone thinks of them.

Black cream legbars?

Here are photos of two of my new babies. I have yet to see any this dark. I suspect that they will lighten, but the chick down is Jet Black....the girls beige chipmunk stripes...the boys white head spots.

I got two girls and two boys...these chicks are really dark, even darker than the photo's show.
any update on this birds? I would lo see pics of these "Dark" Barred birds, the Dark female and dark males.

I think that pic only shows him/her from the side. Here is a better pic so you can see this chick does have clearly defined back stripes. I was questioning the sex because a few weeks ago someone said that the very dark ones with head spots were all males. This one is stumping me because everything says female to me except the head spot and it's very dark color.

I did not see ChicKats pic before today of her dark girl so maybe it's the same as hers? Or do you still think it's a boy?

Thanks

well this pics shows it ALL... that is a Female...

from this angle of the pic you can clearly see two aspects of females. the clearly defined chipmunk back stripes and the clearly defined head strips..

so thats a female, but I would love for you to keep track of that chick to see what it turns out to be... from this angle it seems to be a female,

So far I have had 2 eggs hatch from the batch I got from Steen--they just went in to the brooder and are a little crusty on their backs still. Same deal as with Thespoiledchickens chick, one with a rather large headspot but also chipmunk stripes and a 'v'--its the one on the bottom:

In the above picture the spot doesn't seem very bold, but in a flash closeup it seems pretty big/prominant:

Please tell me that this is an atypical girl, not an atypical boy
