This is so frustrating. I have yet another Legbar Hen having issues. She's having problems walking. She was fine a few days ago when we put new leg bands on them. I have no idea what is going on here or what's going on with these Legbars.

I had a pullet die yesterday. Everyone else is absolutely fine. These guys don't seem to be that hardy. Something to work on!

At this point I'm going to be left with my original girls. I'm down to 5 hens that are 2 months old. It has to be something wrong with them. I've got Marans in there and had Olive Eggers. Haven't had no problems at all with any of those. Only one polish showed problems but so far this would be 3 Legbars. So frustrating.

Well, I think we can safely say that the recessive whites are indeed sexable at hatch. My group turned out to be 2 girls and a boy. The one I had marked for a boy is in fact the boy- he has a large crest and wattles growing, real cutie pie. Here are some updated pics

I donated cream Legbar and Isbar eggs to a local elementary and they hatched last week. The first one out of a blue egg was a solid yellow chick! They immediately emailed me thinking there had been a mix-up.

I have been hoping to hatch one myself and then the first graders beat me to it. I guess one of mine carries the gene too.

Ok, so what exactly are the chances that a cream legbar would carry the correct genes to produce white chicks? Mary, was this white one from a hen that just started laying or from some of your older legbars? I have yet to hatch any whites from mine and as far as I know no one else has hatched any from my eggs either. I am wondering if it is still possible to hatch some whites and it is just a really low percentage that will hatch out white or it's impossible.

I want white ones so badly

Boykin, that egg came from one of my original two pullets. The ones I hatched from your eggs are still too young to lay. This is the first white that I have heard of from my eggs but I suppose someone else who got my eggs could have hatched one and just thought I messed up too. I have sold quite a few on my website and eBay so those buyers may not have seen this thread and know about the whites.


No, I did not ask to swap the chick. I did point them to this thread to learn more. The project was for grades K-8, complete with building a coop and run. I think it will be a good learning opportunity for the kids. That being said, I am going to hatch some eggs and try for my own whites now that I know!

Were these hens all purchased as chicks/juveniles or hatched from purchased eggs?
