Yeah it was pretty bad.
1st the mother of my 5 year old (I have Guardianship) called me crying saying she has lost custody of her younger sister and could I help.
2nd my mother in law called and told us she has lung cancer in stage 3b. We needed to go see her in Vegas instead of staying here in N. Ca. for Thanksgiving. So we packed up the kids and went to Vegas. In the rush to leave we also had left one of our cats outside and no one to look after the chickens. The kids Grandma is dying and she wants to see the kids and give away her things and DH had a bunch of his things there he need to bring here so we rented a Uhaul. The trip there took 11 hours which is bad for an 8 hour trip. we spent way to much money when we were there and and only a fraction of the money left of what we thought we could spend on Christmas. My husband took an additional day off as well. But then it got worse, The return trip got us caught in after Thanksgiving traffic leaving Las Vegas. The first 4 hours of the trip we only traveled 75 miles. The entire trip home took 20 hours this was in a mini van with a 4 month old, 2 five year olds an 11 year old and an 16 year old. We arrived at home at 6 AM The weather at home was record cold (Not very cold by most standards but for us very cold) My husband had to work the night we arrived and the rest of the week 12 hour graveyard shifts so we decided to wait to unload the Uhaul until Friday his day off. I did have him unhitch it so I could take the kids to school. When friday comes he wants to get a few hous sleep and I go to the school to volunteer. I was gone for 2.5 hours but it was gone when I got home. Stolen He lost all the old pictures of his grandparents a $3000 globe that was to be given to the children and other things that were sentimental as well as clothes shoes and winter coats.
We were blessed though so all was not too bad
We arrived safely
Grandma was feeling a little better
I got insurance on the trailer
the cats and chickens were upset but otherwise fine
My husband still had his job and we still had our health and home
and the kids did real good on the trip
The baby still will not sit in his car seat though. he stiffens up and won't bend to sit. For him the trip must have been really bad..... twenty hours looking at the back of the car seat unable to move or turn over
Let us know if there's any way we can help.
