The Old Folks Home

I just said 'too bad. I made 500 dollars last Sunday selling at a science fiction convention. Maybe you should try some sci fi/fantasy art and hit some cons'

Sounds like Eddie Murphy's line to a heckler when he was doing stand-up, "you'd better just sit down and shut up before I hit you with my wallet."

With all the rain we've had lately, the neuropathy in my ankles, and feet has flared some. Last night, I decided to take a couple Ibuprofen, which is usually enough to relieve the discomfort. Well, the Ibuprofen worked, and I decided to do the nightly vacuuming of the kitchen, and breakfast nook area.

As I vacuumed near the counters, I heard something bounce, hitting the counter. I figured it was one of my grandson's tiny lego pieces. Well, as I stepped to move, whatever it was, bounced again. When I set my foot down, it was on that tiny lego. I stepped down hard enough it hurt. I moved my foot to get off the lego, and stepped down again. OUCH. It was still under my foot. Figuring it got stuck to the bottom of the slipper, I took off the slipper.

It was an unpopped popcorn kernel that had bounced INTO the edge of my slipper, so each time I put my foot down, I was stepping on it. In addition to the neuropathy pain, I now have a "stone bruise" on the heel of my foot. I would never have guessed a stupid popcorn kernel could hurt as bad as a lego, if stepped on just right.

So did I, KDOGG!:gig

@getaclue you are just a living model of the Princess and the Pea story, only your pea is is popcorn kernel!

@ronott1. Yep, had lots of broodies this year but few chicks. I was careful. The highest number hatched was 3 chicks to two different hens. Most hatched one. I think head count is around 42 right now which is a number I can live with. There are a few roosters that need to hit freezer camp this fall but I've already made the decision that next year I will have a broody buster cage (bigger) in play and hens will be broke. I didn't feel well enough this spring to fool with them and it was easier to toss an egg under them than struggle to break them. Realistically, I know that maybe I have 5 years at the most left before I'm not able to care for my birds any longer. I'm hoping aging and thinning will diminish that number but I have to accept the fact that I will have that bridge to cross.

With that thought in mind, I'm going to work at not breeding any more birds and be content and busy with the number of birds I have.

@CapricornFarm, and other interested parties. I ran across this article this morning and read it while enjoying my coffee. Warning, it's lengthy but very informative as to what Lyme disease is all about and how a portion of the medical community is at odds with the other concerning treatment of the disease and the companion diseases of Lyme:

It is often the little or the odd things that can hurt the most!
