I have lots of crows around, if I have eggs that go bad I put them on top of my compost pile to ward off hawks and eagles. It’s an offering to my friends the crows.

I wish my crows were large enough to eat an eagle. They are my largest predator right now.
I haven't acually seen them close to the house although they are frequently close by in the trees and fields. There is a large post between my house and where they hang out the most. I think I'll try leaving offerings on that post and see if they come and take them.
They do currently have a large deer carcass to pick around on.
I've got to do something with that, just not sure what yet.

Yes they have protection, but usually have free ranging time. Although that depends on the weather these days. Yesterday was nice after several days of yucky weather. Winter is not my favorite season.
And yes I have noticed the connection between their noise and hawks in the vicinity, they seem to have a different warning cry whenever they are confronting a hawk. I'm learning to recognize that sound. When I say confronting I mean dive bomb aero attack show, they escorted him away several times and he kept coming back.
I had a kitten adopt me this summer and she is a hunting machine. She catches voles daily for fun. Good for her and I, bad for hawks and voles lol.
Oh yes, I’m familiar with their aerial attacks lol. When we lived in California it was in farm and I would hear and see it all day long it seemed. Since much of the agricultural land has been sold off around us we don’t see them here nearly as much as we have in years past.
Right now we have a pair of owls around, I believe it’s the same pair we’ve had for several years. Lovely and smart, so I’m not letting anyone free range. I went outside last spring on a work break to check on the flock and top up water and one of them flew out of the side yard where the flock was hiding. Scared me to death because there no sound, suddenly a large bird was almost brushing my face with a wing as it flew away.

I had an owl brood(?) a nest of owlings in a pine grove where I used to live. I would walk back there and check on their progress. Just amazing how silent they can fly and how well they maneuver through the thick pines considering how large the wing span was. It was a horned owl and the 3 little ones were sooo cute :) blink, blink.
Their droppings are pretty nasty looking though. That's how I noticed them because I found the droppings.
