couldn't you just clip their wings so they couldn't fly?

Possibly, but I just had to get rid of my young Isbars status beginning of the years. Even with clipped wings they were vaulting over my garden fence and managing to roost in my neighbor's tree. I'm sticking to girls with junk in their trunk.

I have 3 Sapphire Gems. I raised them as chicks and gave them LOTS of time. Mine are very friendly, likes being pet, and fine with being held. They also follows me a bit and come for pets. I haven't had one give hugs though and they aren't the smiley-est chickens but I love mine and mine seem to like affection. Following this.

I know this thread was started quite a long time ago. But I just got two sapphire gems from Rural King 15 days ago. I feel pretty confident saying the larger one is a roo. Anyone with more experience have any thoughts?

You maybe right, the comb is noticeable already but it's best to wait it out til at least 6 - 8wks. Cute chicks.

Based on stance and comb, I'd guess the same.

My sapphire gem Luna is now 7 months old! No eggs yet, but she is pretty. I will upload photos in the mornin

My Saphire gem is also called luna lol! She just turned 1 in April.. lays beautiful large light brown eggs with sometimes double yolkers and is super social with us.. I just love her to bits
The color around her neck has turned a more brownish color.. I have one of her daughters who's dad is a Light Brahma... she looks just like mom only darker all over.. I'll post pics later

Meet Shadow... I hatched her from my own flock. She is a cross between my SG and my Light Brahma roo.. she is super sweet and curious.. doesn't mind being held but doesn't seem to care all that much for the initial pick up lol always under foot when I'm in the run or coop.. she was very curious about the camera haha now at 9 1/2 weeks and such a pretty girl.. she is the one in the front with me holding her and her sister Blackberry (JGxLB).. she is the light colored one in the dust bathing box I made when they were little.. she has darkened up a lot with age already which I am surprised about gi ing her father.. hope you enjoy!
