The Sizzle Thread!

Pics
????? i know that silkie mixes will have normal feathers. i hatched 4 out  and two were silkied feathers and the two that are not are the ones that the pics are of. i was just wondering if i could call them normal feathered silzzles?? thanks for replying

srry i kind of confused myself there too lol... i was tryin to say it looked like a smooth sizzle but could also just be a regular silkie mix

Definitely. It is in the amount of breeding that has gone into the bird. A silkieX has half the genes of a silkie and half of whatever it was crossed with. A smooth sizzle should be pure (homozygous) for virtually all the necessary genes. The offspring of a silkieX can be all over the board. The offspring of a smooth sizzle bred to a sizzle should be 50/50 smooth and sizzle. No silkie feathers, all with 5 toes per foot, good crests, good muffs/beards (or none; nothing in between), good type.

sizzles are smooth and rough but both should have all the features of a silkie. black skin, walnut comb, extra toes and and puffy headdress.
a mix is more likely to have white skin and another comb type.

Oh, haha so is there a difference in silkie mixes and smooth feathered sizzles???

My grow out roo is entering into that mean stage :( I've started picking him up every time and it is working, thank goodness. When his dad went through that stage i didn't know about picking him up at first, so he was the coop menace for awhile. Now he's sweet as can be. :)
Here is a pic if the young roo:

So even though the 75%silkie chick(mom silkie mix mixed back to a silkie )can produce silkie feathered offspring by mixing back to a silkie is not classified as a sizzle even though it has a good crest 5 toes and hair all the way down the middle toe???? Thanks for the responses, its just I'm kinda confused still.
