The Sussex thread!

thats a nice size egg jujubara!!! the good news is my easter egger layed her first egg today at 24weeks. So hopefully her bestie will lay soon. I have a silkie too, but shes only 7months and im sure it will be in the spring when she lays.

Congrats!  Our Speckled Sussex (Hazel) has yet to lay an egg, but, she is still kind of young and is just starting to switch over to layer feed.

Thanks. At first we thought she laid the brown one, because there was a speckled feather with it, but then we found this and it's closer to the sussex color. I guess she was jumping in all the boxes. Lol

One of my hens shocked me when she laid yesterday (not the speckled sussex). But the interesting part was how she squatted and laid flat down when another hen put her in her place and pinned her down with her leg. That was a big hint.

My speckled sussex is the biggest girl in the coop, Her comb is large and red at 24 going on 25weeks. Hoping for an egg anytime now. The temperatures over here have been mild which is really a plus.
