This isn't true! I mean come on! Maybe back in the 60s...

i live down the street to some leader to the local KKK chapter. *shudders*

He smiles at me when we pass, but i doubt he would i he knew my heritage. ( despite being mixed race I could easily pass as white)

I believe it.. back when i was a teen.(which wasnt toooo long ago), living in Florida, they had a "black and white" part of town... and people didnt usually cross it to live in that part of town. They would work along whites, etc.. but most still lived in "their" part of town...
So still the area was mostly still segregated.
They even a Mexican part too...
But the public schools were all mixed races.
And KKK was still very strong and i remember hearing about how if a bunch of Mexicans robbed the tires off your truck (or whatever..)..., you could contact them, and the KKK would find them before the cops did.
So yeah...

Also, i think there all black colleges still going today?? No whites allowed...
Or no?? Maybe i am wrong...

There is an elementary school here that is like that, and I live in the Deep South. The community pretty much wants the school to be all one race. I don't want to cause problems, so I shall say no more here.

A lot of larger cities have a Chinatown, we have a community near us that is predominately Mexican, and Russian. These towns were formed not from bigotry but were migrant camps long ago.

Those are some scary, wacked out folks. *shudders, is right*
Usually white cracker trash too..

he seems like a nice elderly man when you just look at him.
He holds the door open for women ( Well white women) very old school southern type
He would almost be likable
then he opens his mouth

and all i think about is explaining this thing called genetics and how our genes actually favor mixing of races, just as crossing different breeds of cattle, dogs or any other species. The diverse lines create hybrid vigor, even in humans, and result in healthier babies with less of a chance for birth defects.

Socially speaking, if done in a positive manner, mixing of cultures promotes growth, new ideas, and positive social changes.

I doubt he would listen or even get it.

Well, its kinda like up here.... we have Polish areas, portugese towns.... etc...
*those places have the BEST food*

So, its not all about FORCED segregation... people of the same cultures tend to WANT to live among like people of their culture.

I think some people are mistaking forced segregation with natural tendencies to live around what is familiar. The difference is one is forced the other is choice. People who live in a community of liked minded people ( Suburbanites happy in the suburbs, farmers happy in the country, Christians more content in churches of their denominations, orthodox Jews more comfortable worshiping in orthodox churches. ((This is not the rule, i know people mingle all the time!)) \\) doesn't mean true segregation because these people mingle, marry, work with and so on with other cultures and races. There is little to no hostility towards other races or cultures as a whole.

This is fine, natural even. It is necessary to have a since of community and a strong social bond with familiarities that unite people.

It is when people take things to the extremes, or when it becomes an actual law or policy rather than natural gravitation of comfort zones, is when it becomes a problem. Such as the segregated proms. This was a policy, inflicted onto others. It wasn't natural. people WANTED To mingle but were denied.

That isn't kids hanging out with kids of their own culture, this was a school activity that actively divided groups by social pressure from a dominate culture.

big difference.
