Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

CG: That sucks. I don't know why that happens. My whole first hatch was like that. I got one. (Beaker). And then I found this thread and SM was going through the same thing.

The rest is history.

But each hatch has gotten better for me.

CG, it doesn't look good for them. I would be very cautious if there are other eggs still in the incubator. No need to have a bad egg go very bad and cost the others to not make it.

QJ, you are too funny. Suppose to be nice here tomorrow, will see if the geese are feeling up for glamour shots to share.

Our first hatches were less than stellar. Finally got everything worked out for where we live and our daily weather. Then got rid of one incubator and moved to a new brand, added more, jumped to cabinets and the rest is history.

It is better to not practice on expensive really want them rare breed shipped eggs. First hatches are always practice to get everything running smoothly.

Can someone tell me how to do the float test? I think I have a bad egg, and I cant take the chance of it exploading all over my little bobby! I covered bobby with a napkin just in case...

well then.
i will remove the eggs tomarrow.
and place in my call duck eggs.
i may just leave them in until saturday when i have time to deal with it.
i will be MIA all day tomarrow.
i am going to the midwst veterinary conference.

i was collecting my eggs to put in there. and was putting them in once these were out.

Warm water in a bowl, gentlely lower the egg into the water. Let the water go still from your hand leaving the water. If the egg floats at the surface of the water most likely it's bad. If it sits at the bottom standing on end (pointy end) and moves there is a baby inside. Moving is a wiggle/wobble type motion. Don't leave the egg in the water for too long. Just long enough to see where it settles.

CG, hatching eggs is stressful crap really. We have had eggs externally pip be rocking and then suddenly stop and die. Makes you want to scream after investing all of that time.

What type of ducks are you wanting to add? I know you are setting your call duck eggs, but what other breeds are you wanting?
