Warm water in a bowl, gentlely lower the egg into the water. Let the water go still from your hand leaving the water. If the egg floats at the surface of the water most likely it's bad. If it sits at the bottom standing on end (pointy end) and moves there is a baby inside. Moving is a wiggle/wobble type motion. Don't leave the egg in the water for too long. Just long enough to see where it settles.

CG, hatching eggs is stressful crap really. We have had eggs externally pip be rocking and then suddenly stop and die. Makes you want to scream after investing all of that time.
What type of ducks are you wanting to add? I know you are setting your call duck eggs, but what other breeds are you wanting?

i'm not technically "allowed" to be adding any other breed.
i thought maybe if i got a hen i liked outa the deal i could win in the argument of who stays.
but a drake will always be out of the question because seperate penning is not an option right now.

my dream. would be to add anconas. i absolutely love them .
but for now i have to settle for my calls and my geese. (which for some reason i was allowed to get 2 different breeds)
i see my grandma's logic. we don't need the breeds mixing.
but still. that is no fun!

Ok you guys have been too busy for me to catch up. I have been having computer isues all day but I think I might be up and running again.
I have 9 baby chicks alive. 2 of them I am worried about though. They seem to not be able to hold their heads up or sit up at all. I have been giving them sav-a-chick today about every hour but they just don't seem to ge coming around. The other 7 are moving all over, they even ate alittle food tonight. They went up and drink out of the waterer too. Get ready to be overloaded with pics

but when i get my own place.
my dream is to have a barn with a few horse stalls that i can turn into poultry runs. put a little dor going outside, and build an outside run for each breed.
and maybe have a small flock freeranging .
