Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

What I did both times was wait until the other eggs hatched before assisting the ones that pipped. Since they pipped, they could breathe so they have time. They MAY be able to hatch on their own, but if not....

You need to get your humidity up to 75% or more in the room your bator is in. I would also bump humidity in bator to 80%. Get yourself a pair of tweezers, some qtips and warm water. If you have eyebrow scissors, those are helpful too. Use watered down qtip to moisten membrane. Then, VERY slowly take teeny pieces of shell away from egg with tweezers , making sure to also remove membrane underneath. The scissors help to cut off peeled away pieces of membrane. As soon as you see the first sign of blood, put back into bator and wait 30 minutes to an hour. Then repeat process over and over and over. Do NOT rush and try to remove shell in 1 or 2 sessions.

Membrane being the white papery stuff directly under the shell or the gooey stuff with the veins in it?

One needing to assist a hatch I refer to the sticky at the top of the goose thread. Pete's hatching guide really and truly is the best walk through for anyone hatching waterfowl. It gives step by step with images so you can't go wrong. Only thing I will say is, GO SLOW! Waterfowl hatch slowly, not fast like chickens, so you have to move very slow when assisting.

Three Sebbies here are looking good, appear to have two lighter in color, one darker. Will see what hatch, and drying brings us for true color. Can't wait for our various colors of Sebastopol to start hatching. Then I will be a worry wart and up all night with them.

Getting mailed eggs is fun, but y'all hatching your own is so much better! It is a sense of pride in a breeding program and the choices you made for breeding stock to have quality babies hatching. Then planning the next years pairings based on what was produced this year.

Dont go anywhere guys. In approx 30 min i will post a pic of the baby, im going to go get him then take a shower. N then i will post a pic

I have read that up post, down and sideways, and I guess at this pojnt, I need to wait. They just pipped today, so I need to give them at least another 12 hours before I do anything further.

good evening everybody. Took down the plywood housing around the ducks area and put up the short wire fence that i use for the summer. Cleaned the inside of the duck kennel alittle today too. Tried to get a bunch done today since I go to the hospital tomorrow. I have to be there at 1:30 tomorrow. Not sure how long it will take. In the morning I have a bunch more to get done before heading down to the hospital so I probably won't be in much tomorrow. I will try to update tomorrow night. I have my Crelo chickens on lockdown tonight. They are due on Tuesday and I saw alot of dips in the eggs. Then as soon as they are hatched, I have a BUNCH of Pekins due. It is going to be non stop hatching for the next 3 weeks or so. Busy Busy. Told Hubby I will need his help as much as possible. I am not sure what my down time will be either.

Mine pipped this afternoon as well. I gave the duck enough room to get it's beak out of the shell, just as it would in the air cell. And usually it takes about 24 hours after external pip for any zipping to start. It so hard not to help. (Especially since I lost one this afternoon cause I DIDN'T help.) But wait I must. wouldn't want to rupture any blood vessels and be the cause of the baby not making it. Come back and stay in touch I want to know how yours do tonight and tomorrow! And hopefully we can share some pictures of the cute little ones hatched, warm and fluffy!
