Going Quackers -

I have sometimes had foot issue with my baby ducks (I hatch many many every spring and summer), and honestly, I have had them simply out grow it pretty often. I believe its got something to do with where the leg ended up in the egg. I remember very specifically Pekings having this more than Khakis do. I suppose out of 10, 7 are getting around ok by the first month. Three became dinner ducks, when they couldn't get around at all. (you know how fat pekings get)

You might try moving the leg front and back a bit every day, to keep it from fusing that way. That's all I ever did. Good luck.

I have a girl who struggles, but as long as she can get in and out of the duck house and the pool, we're going to let her keep on keepin' on.

Clumsy Pekin:

Clumsy injured herself a few months ago and this leg kept getting stuck back on top of her tail:

Quackers, make a splint out of a band ade or vet wrap to hold the two legs together. It could likely be straddle leg, it will take a few days to correct and strengthen with the help of a splint.

ok guys here he iss .
he is less than 6 hours old (not by much). at 4 pm he was ext. pipped and peepeing . at 8 pm. he was out and starting to dry. and it is now 10:30 pm and he is dry and fiesty.

i beleive he is going to be snowy. right celtic and julie??

he looks SOOOO tiny after seeing my 2 week old geese and normal sized ducks.

i do beleive this little one may have to stay here forever since he is my first ever hatch of my stock.
im think of calling him uno.

Looks snowy to me, or maybe lilac bibbed. I can't ever really tell, but Uno looks a lot like mine who are feathering out snowy I believe.

Julie, they are 5.5 weeks old now.
Good plan to wait to help, both of you. As I said, I have waited until the others hatch before helping.
Celtic, can't wait to see your new sebbie babies.
CG, am waiting for your pic too.

Wow. Did your adult geese finally meet them while they were out in the new brooder?

Hi everyone!

Hi new people!

Iain - your duck pen is a bit like ours! When a design works, stay after it.

Celtic - I hope they find out quickly whats going on with your DH, it is so stressful, I know. (I lost my first husband, but don't panic, we knew it was coming)

SM - I hope things go well for you tomarrow! please update us when you can.

I just set quail and turkeys. I marked air pockets on goose eggs. I was going to weigh them, but my didgital scale recused to come on. DH was too busy to see if he could fix it. (sigh) At least I know I can monitor air cell progress. Nice big fat eggs, those goose eggs. I'm expecting sebastopol goose eggs tomarrow, so I guess I'll set them with the Tolouse eggs tomarrow night.
I set turkeys yesterday, so we'll be hatching ours together I hope!

I've been in a tizzy all day trying to figure out how to fix Pocket's leg! I call my last hatchling Pocket because he/she rides around in my shirt pocket while I'm in my brooder room.

You might be able to see hoe Pocket (L) has its leg stretched out behind. Poor little one can't seem to keep that leg in the right position and scooches around with the one leg behind it. I know I'm running out of time to figure out a good treatment as the older he/she gets, the more likely it will be permanent. Suggestions?

My quail have curled under feet sometimes, it usually corrects itself on them in a day or two. One of my calls couldn't seem to get her feet coordinated, so I put her in a little yogurt cup thingy for about 36 hours until she got her legs under her right. It wasn't all the way out like that though. Hopefully it'll just be like marty's ducks and correct itself later.

Iain, not too sure about those eggs there. They deffinetly look questionable, I would be watching them closely so you don't end up with a surprise oozer. Update on hubby, he is in extreme pain tonight that even IV meds aren't touching.

we have a starting point though with the specialist Pasonage Turner syndrome. It's atleast a starting point and hopefully they can get it under control for his sake. Hoping he will still come home tomorrow, but now worried he might be there for awhile. Will be taking the baby to see if tomorrow if he isn't allowed to come home.

Let me know if you need to talk, or I can do anything for you (from here).... You must be so worried. It's terrable to have your partner im pain.

UNO isn't a white call, would be all yellow if he was. Could be a snowy or a blue fawn. Our blue fawns are born looking just like that.

I'm gonna try this next time. sounds much better than waiting around and physical therapy! LOL. Do they just hang out on their sides a few days then??

Thanks Marty, it's a one day at a time and plan the next days attack the night before. Very lucky to have a teenager who enjoys the farm and steps up w/o being asked.
