QJ, I am not kidding. It's been a heck of a day... and it looks far from over still.
Humidity is now at 71%. I can see the breathing through the shell, so I know it is doing its thing. But, it is really quiet. Between the fluid issues, being able to see through the shell but not hear it without straining to listen through steth... this is completely foreign territory for me.
You guys made my day! Funny Sheet!
well it is with relief that i tell you guys that the handiquack duckling passed away sometime in the night .
i took him and his bowl out of the brooder when i got up and the other 2 went searching for their bowl.
they liked to sleep in it with him.
and the geese are quickly outgrowing being brooded on the porch.
another solution will have to be found this week,
OK... I seriously need help here!! It was bugging me about not hearing it click click, so I steamed up bathroom to take a peek. It has NOT internally pipped. It has moved so that the fluid has moved into aircell and I'm seeing the pulses from the duckling in the fluid.
My gut says to at least pip an external hole to see if fluid drains out.... I also see what appears to be the beak in the center on the top side of air cell, instead of on bottom. I can try to take pics if it help???
Anyone????

I candled everyting but button quail and pheasents this morning, they are both just soooo dark. I've gotta get the black thing cocoa showed us, and try it.
(thats 2 sets of shipped wgg w/100% embryos going)![]()
Sorry Utah! I just thad the same thing with my marans, I had 4 start pipping a day early, and in the morning I was expecting to see their fluffy butts, but They hadn't so I pipped their air cell & 2 were still alive & 2 were not. It made feel& these were my Marans, then I had a horrible mishap.![]()
My Golden Reriever got in my brooding room, DON'T know how it happened, but she ate all my day old Marans. They were in with my Silkie, the silkie was fine, but there was nothing in there with my silkie. She was the only one in the house alone for like 10 minutes, when I came in from outside I saw her coming down the stairs.... Had a weird feeling so I rushed up stairs.... I could have beat herBut it was not her fault it was mine. I now have latches on my lids so they just don't rest on top. A simple step I should have done from the start, but I overlooked. I mean they are raised from the ground & 2 feet more high on top of it. So she really had to "work" at it. All my other brooders were not touched so to speak being that they all had babies in it. This happpened 2 days ago.![]()

So I am now ordering another 2 dozen, to get my blues.

So I threw all the eggs out... getting ready to scour clean the bator before moving over the next set of eggs scheduled to hatch. I gave the eggs a close look and saw the following:
2 eggs: turned backwards
3 eggs: fully moved in air cell that tried so hard to external pip, but couldn't break shell
1 egg: internally pipped but not moved all the way up to external pip position
1 egg: never internally pipped
And 1 egg that zipped all but less than 1 inch... then died. I can live with the others dying, but this one really is screwing with my head.
WTH went wrong??!?!![]()
Jaz, omg how awful about your marans. So sorry!!![]()
ETA: Oops... forgot to check my remaining pidgey egg.... wouldn't that be ironic if it is still alive.
Geez, may I please have a do-over for today??!?!?!
After waking up to dead babies, I run to town for a dr's appt. When I drove back up my street towards home, I see my horses running down street at me! So, I grabbed a bowl of treats... and like good children, they all ran up to me and followed me back to their pasture. I walk back inside, dispose of dead babies, wondering WTH would make my horses bust through the gate to run away.... when I see a brush fire creeping fast in my pasture!! Some freaking IDIOT neighbor grandpa told his grandkids to do a "controlled burn" of his pasture (next to mine) along MY fence line... in 30+ MPH winds going straight into my pasture!!
So just spent the last 1.5 hours dealing with fire department, cops, and stupid idiot neighbors.
UGH!!
Well, I'll be darned. The pidgey egg is trying to internally pip. I moved it over to the hatching bator (keeping humidity below 50% still) and propped it on a slight angled with a piece of egg carton. I simply cannot believe it is alive.
