Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Iain - I hope this one works out for you. I'm kind of in a similiar situation with one of my eggs. I've been debating all evening whether or not to do something. I didn't know if you could put a hole in an egg that hasn't internally pipped. It sounds like it's OK??? Not sure what I should do. This is one that had a funky air cell. I still see movement in the egg. Should I make a little hole? The other 3 eggs are peeping at me and this one still no pip!

I externally pipped the 2 eggs that have been internally pipped since Weds night. That's 48 hours (at least) and I was worried after what happened to yours. One of the shells especially was REALLY thick.
I'm glad I pipped, or I'm sure they'd never have escaped at all. These jumbo pekings also have terrably thick shells, I've never seen the like. I don't know how they could have hoped to make it. I'll never be as shy about stepping up and intervening again.

just finished round 3. Drained the fluid and removed a bit more around the head. Waiting for next round now.

Christine, pip a large enough hole that you can get a good look inside. Helps to use a flashlight to see inside hole. Depending on what you see will determine your next step of action.

For all your eggs not externally pipped, get to work if you want to help them make it.

Marty, GREAT to hear you are helping your babies have a chance! We will stick it out together.

One baby is just resting, but can leave his shell at any time. He is the most active, and twitches even in sleep. This one was internally pipped, and ready to go. Number two baby is very weak, and may not make it, I don't count on it. Number three died before round two. It was backward in the shell. It was wiggling, and it looked to be trying to pip, but I left it to rest, and compose myself. I think If I'd just done a bit more sooner, he'd have made it. I'm pretty sure w/o intervention, there would be no hope for 2, and maybe one. He'd been pipped internally since last night. He breathed mightily when I opened the shell, and was trying to move my little screw for pipping to get his beak out.

I'm going to go to bed now, and let them have a go, they are free enough to live, or not live, as the universe decrees.

We are waiting another 25 minutes to go in again. Baby is still alive. We have been working away at this now for almost 3 hours. I can't fall asleep until I see this through one way or another.

I'm afraid if I do more, I'll kill them, so I wait. They are heads and necks out, and #1 has drug himself out a bit further. He peeps. I know ducks take longer, so I don't want to err on either side. I think I"ve pressed my luck enough for one side.

The rule of thumb, as I understand it, is to do little amount each time... waiting min 30-60 minutes between rounds. But, sometimes patience is the better option. If you are going to bed, sleep well and I truly hope you wake up to babies in the morning!!

to all of you, Marty I hope you sleep well and Iain I hope when you go to bed you rest and tomarrow (later today) shows a ton of improvement over today.

Chris I hope your babies are fine no matter what road you chose to travel tonight.
