Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Maybe I'm confused by bill vs color sexing. I can't find where I read it, although I really thought it was in storey's but maybe not. Here is a link on it though.

Your correct on the down sexing thing Jules. You need a gold drake, and silver duck to have sex linked ducklings. But as long as their pure WH, you can sex them as day olds by the bill. Males have black, females pink.

So I took a fridge egg and drew examples lines. The ring along top of egg would be the day 21 air cell line. The slanted line would be how the air cell would appear once baby completely internally pipped. What I want to see after day 21 is a gradual change from the first drawn line to the 2nd slanted drawn line.

Now a pic of one of my goslings just before external pip:

Celtic- Why did you not warn me how cute these EE's would be? I have decided to grow them out until I can see who's what and keep my favorite pair so I will have an EE trio (along with my 2 year old's chicken).

Maybe I'll get one that likes me this time. My EE only likes my 2 year old. She'll squat whenever she is around and lets her pick her up, I can't come within 10 feet of her. It's cute though, Cara tells me "look mommy, my chicken, she loves me" and sits there with her on her lap.

My front running african has externally pipped!! It's a big pip too!! My 219g toulouse is right behind him, working hard at the shell!!!

Here are button quail #1 next to a dice, to give you an idea of his tiny size.....

Here is quail #1 this morning, under his 25 watt bulb with his good buddy fuzzy hair band and tiny bobble head dog...... (yeah, they are way bigger than him)

Here is the other baby, who was a bit shrink wrapped, so I just peeled back his membraine, and he jumped out into my hand a few seconds after I snapped this! I hope we get some more!!!

These babies are SOOOO tiny!!! The eggs are about 1/2" tall. If my courturnix look like popcorns w/toothpick legs, this guy looks like he could hide inside a popcorn, but their feet are freaking huge for thier size!

OH MY!! I'd be afraid of losing the baby they'er soooo tiny and cute and TINY!

Babies and momma. She is very proud of her little ones.

I love EE's they are such colorful personalities

Marty, that is so gosh darn cool how tiny they are! I thought SA was teeny next to all the day older anconas.... but she is a giant compared to your babies.

How I have been able to tell if egg wrong way: If I have an egg that is cruising strong up to lockdown day and I see all other eggs with dramatic air cell dip and babies moved way up into bottom side of air cell.... and then I have 1 or 2 eggs that have only made small drop in air cell, have barely crossed day 21 line on bottom, but are vibrating hard to try to pip... these eggs are probably positioned backwards. Certain problem aircells also seem to be a forewarning that the baby will not be able to position right when developing.

that helps..... i'm learning just enough to scare myself
