Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

By the way, do you remember a year ago this time when I was hatching my first set of cayugas and you guys were so great helping me? Here is my favorite girl that I kept from that hatch. She will be 1yo on Feb. 4th.

~ we were hatching fools last year
Let me know how that goes. Not that I want to hatch emus or anything, but I was wondering if they would need to be incubated separate because of the temperature thing.

Well hatched a bunch of chicks ~ 38ish at 97.5 degrees. They were just random auction eggs, I was just curious to see how many would hatch and how much longer they took to hatch.
I have my 8 Konzas, 2 Aborigine project, & 2 duck in LD right now.
Set 9 Konzas, hatching 8 ~ Set 3 Aber's all 3 viable these were shipped eggs too

, and 2 random duck eggs for my neighbor checking fertility.

Look forward to having our hatching group going again this year.

OH and everyone thinks I am crazy, Like you are going to do what???? I keep telling peeps, you just wait, who is going to be the one coming to me for My BBQ & Slow smoked, jerky and burgers! I hope to can some also. Maybe I might be able to send some? Any takers?
My son is like "NO WAY mom, I am not going to feed those!" My daughter can't wait to hand raise them, but she also can wait to eat one!

Speaking of names, anybody have a good name for a welsh harlequin drake? He just went to the vet and is on meds for his sinus infection, so I'm pretty sure he'll make it. Little bugger was way underweight when they weighed him - apparently being the lowest drake on the totem pole in a flock with six males and two females wasn't sitting well with him. I'll get him fattened right up :) Only one of the girls has a name right now - Dove - so anything that kind of goes along with that would be perfect. I also seem to sort of have a food theme going on with my birds so that would work too.

Hershey

I didn't even THINK of that! Wow, that's good. Hershey it is :) Thanks for the suggestion!

We have 13 little babies Pekin and Ancona mix and still hatching! Not sure what to do with all these babies my son got an incubator for Christmas since our little girl decided she was too good to sit on her eggs. We weren't sure how many would hatch and so far out of 18, 13 have hatched so far we may need to get us a plan together.

My ancona drake's name is Hershey, so of course I love the name. :)

I will have to live vicariously through all of you with your bators going. It will be a while before my dewlaps start laying.

You won't be alone. I am NOT raising any more ducklings in the house for more than a few days, so I'm waiting for warmer weather. Way too stinky.

I couldn't agree more! Little ducks are the very worst by far! I had to make my own waterers to keep them from soaking everything constantly. However, they just loved bathrime in the people tub while mama cleans cages. A nice warm water dip for my stinky babies.

Well I am new to this site and to hatching but you all have helped me so much and I have enjoyed reading your post. Good luck to everyone! We have our babies in my sons room LOL all 15 (so far) wonder if he will still love them and want them there in a few days?!? When should I introduce them to water (for swimming) I know it's a dumb question but mine were 7 weeks old when we got them and they were already swimming and they were hatched in a bator so the mom didn't teach them.

We have switched over to water bottles for the ducklings. Things get way to messy the otherwise. While they are less than a week old they get a normal water cup to drink from but once they are a week or so old we transition them to the water bottle. They pick up on it very quickly because they are attracted to the shiny metal. It's really helped knock the stink down in the inside brooder. Plus frequent cleaning of course.
