One of the eyes has that whitish sheen. Baby had one eye open and the other caked with bedding again this morning. I'm giving it all the love and attention I can, but things don't look so good since the other hatchling passed while I was at work. Shipped eggs...![]()
I certainly hope so. I've been trying to build a flock of Saxonies for over a year now and not having much luck with them.
k, i've made it to day 21, think i have one dead one still, but can't tell anything about the others...too dark in there! two more days to possible pip then lockdown....keeping my fingers crossed![]()
Do it when you get home. Don't do it too soon, geese and ducks are slow hatchers. Take a deep breath, be sure your humidity is good, and have a little faith in mother nature. As soon as you get home, if it hasn't pipped externally yet, make a tiny air hole, and give it another 12 hours to do it's own pipping. You'll kill babies much sooner by messing with them than by leaving them alone.Hey can anyone help? I have a call duck egg. Just one left out of 3 unfortunately but it has made me all the more determined to keep it alive and healthy. It has internally piped but I'm not sure when. I've read to put a little hole in the air cell part of the egg if it hasn't externally piped after 24 hours. If I count 24 hours from when I noticed it had internally piped, nobody will be home that time tomorrow so we can't rescue it if it is going to suffocate. I'm really worried about it as its my first hatch so a bit iffy about the incubator and things. What should I do? Should I poke a hole now so I know it is okay or will it dry up and be shrink wrapped by the time I get home? What do I do?![]()
Thank you. Little baby is still alive and hopefully bonding with the other duckling we gave it as a buddy. It responds to my voice, tipping its head sideways.Keeping my fingers crossed for you![]()
