Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Hurray! I'm waiting until dark, then candling everyone.I need to toss the quail eggs that aren't developing yet. Can't wait until I get everyone hatched out so I can clean my incubator and pack it away for a little bit. I'm hoping by the time I'm ready to hatch anything else my silkies will be ready to take over that part for me.

So I don't count again? Thanks a lot SM!

That's me too. I need a break for awhile.

Yep. Or a set and forget incubator. But I don't really want to brood anymore than what I will have already. That's the nice thing about silkies. You give them eggs, they incubate, hatch, and brood. And they are way better at it than any incubator or brooder. Which is why I've decided I need more. I want a flock of furry incubators. If only they could hatch quail.

The hawks must be hanging around again, I have no chickens out roaming around. They are so bad this winter. I think there are more wintering over here because the winters been so mild. Everyone is hiding, the turkey is standing guard. I kind of want to keep her just because she's so good at it, but I want her to be able to live with other turkeys. Hopefully my geese will be as good at being sentries.

So my eggs that were supposed to hatch the 28th (the ones that were in the bator for over a week before I realized the turner wasn't plugged into a working outlet) started hatching a few days ago. Not really sure why they decided to come early. They were all collected and placed in the bator within 2 days of each other and day 28 is on the 28th.
Anyways, so far I have 7 out of 15 out. 2 are crippled, one has a leg that formed in the wrong direction and the other had a crooked neck and leg that prevents him from walking. I gave them to someone I know who has spare time to give them therapy and individual attention to see if she can help them.
I candled the rest and they are still moving so I'm going to wait it out and see of any more will hatch.
Here are a few pics. Not 100% sure on breeds, but looks like 3 blue swedish, 2 cayuga, and 2 khaki campbells. I was expecting some pekins since STILLMECLE had so many from the eggs she got from me.
