Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

I don't have to really worry about hawks here in town. We have raccoons running around and squirrels stealing the ducks food.

So my eggs that were supposed to hatch the 28th (the ones that were in the bator for over a week before I realized the turner wasn't plugged into a working outlet) started hatching a few days ago. Not really sure why they decided to come early. They were all collected and placed in the bator within 2 days of each other and day 28 is on the 28th.
Anyways, so far I have 7 out of 15 out. 2 are crippled, one has a leg that formed in the wrong direction and the other had a crooked neck and leg that prevents him from walking. I gave them to someone I know who has spare time to give them therapy and individual attention to see if she can help them.
I candled the rest and they are still moving so I'm going to wait it out and see of any more will hatch.
Here are a few pics. Not 100% sure on breeds, but looks like 3 blue swedish, 2 cayuga, and 2 khaki campbells. I was expecting some pekins since STILLMECLE had so many from the eggs she got from me.

Those babies are so cute..

Very cute. That's too bad about the 2. Hopefully with some work they'll be ok. Sometimes my last few quail that come out have crooked toes and smushed feet from being in the egg too long and they straighten out after a day or two. I hope the rest are ok, glad the 5 are healthy and cute as can be!

Thank you : )
I've got another 44 ducks eggs I just put in the incubator yesterday. All Ancona eggs! I can't wait for the little spotted fuzzy butts to hatch! 28 days can seem like SO LONG.....

I live in town too. I never saw hawks in my yard before I got my chickens, even then I didn't really start seeing them actually in the yard until this spring. Then I still wasn't too worried because I have no babies outside and my bantam chickens are smart enough to stick real close to the coop or fenceline where there's cover. Everyone always said hawks don't go after adult large fowl poultry. Well, apparently they do.

I am afraid to post, I never look at the count ! I don't want to "take" thee post

They all hatched a week early. I ended up with a Pekin, Welsh Harlequin, a black Swede, 1 Cayuga, a blue fawn mallard and a roeon/mallard mix.

So I definitely hear taps, not clicks. I hear a few taps or taptaps... seems to be with the rocking... then quiet for a few minutes... like the duckies are resting. Repeat again. New bator is stabilizing quickly! Can't wait to candle and move them.

Should I leave them "x" side up (the position they are in now) when I move them to new bator??
