Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

Hi Cocoa! Yeah, I eat what I get from the grocery store or if I decide to be a little more daring I will get some at the farmers market. LOL I laugh in the face of danger!

Thanks!! I hear clicking sounds from 2 eggs now. I will do a quick candle in a couple of hours to check on shadowing status of the remaining eggs. I have to open bator anyway to add sponges. Humidity is currently sitting at 58% with one vent hole open.

Only 72 hours to go... good thing I have eggs in the other bator that need attention to distract me.

Almost half of my 8 ancona eggs have internally pipped in the last couple of hours. I expect the other four to pip by the morning at the latest. In my experience (with my bator in my conditions) my ducks internally pip on day 24-25, externally pip on day 25-26, then hatch on day 27 into morning of day 28. I stop turning my eggs when air cell makes dramatic dip, which is usually by day 23. Hatching is a 72 hour process.

I have had mine pip on day 27 ~ I only help pip on day 27 & hatch by 28-29 sometimes. I do not assist really, I will do a pinhole pip if they have internally pipped for a day or so. I ONLY help zip when they have already begun to zip NEVER before....That usually means they are not ready to come out! Absorbing egg yolk probally.

Usually I will pop the top off if they have 75% or more zipped & let them pop out of their egg shells on their own. I never have taken them out of their shell completely. (except in the beginning hatching experiences & 90% never panned out) Mother nature knows her business ~ They can hang out in their eggs longer than you think, and they take forever, which puts people in a panic that they are in trouble.

As ya'll know, I never used to candle more than at day 14 to toss out the bads. Now, I have this important ducks eggs, and I want to be more hands on, every egg left is important. They are rare, and from expensive stock. I've got 7 eggs going, and two with wonky cells and what appears to be liquid on the bottem of the egg (pointy end) but there are still veins, and one of the babies responds to light. I've noticed a heavy angle on my air cells now, and I'm watching for pips, lockdown is tomarrow. Think I should stop turning now?

I'm sweating a little, this eggs....I really want these babies.

I hear ya. This is only my 3rd duck hatch (4th hatch total counting my goosies).... and I write down dates/times of all observations each time. So far, everything is right on schedule. I have not helped any babies (YET) that have not externally pipped on its own.

Marty, I'll be able to attempt the picture of my eggs with fluid for you in about 2 hours... and I may even grab a shot of one of the good ancona eggs too for comparison.
