sorry about your eggs.
i think this week is just all around a bad luck week .

Marty, can't say. I am a beginner hatcher and have only tried to hatch eggs that were purchased online and shipped. My first attempt was with pidgey eggs. I had 1 make it past day 7 all the way to day 26, then it died. My next 3 hatches were 75%, 50% (another set of aurora eggs... similar thing happened with them), and 66.66% with my goslings.

Now, obviously I am dealing with my hatch of death with aurora "take a chance" eggs.... and praying for 1 pidgey egg to hatch.

We'll see what happens early next week with my set of thistle down farms ancona eggs.... then my goose hatching next weekend. After that, I'll have a better opinion about trying to hatch shipped eggs.

Oh, yes, Let me go grab it now before I get distracted.

Thankyou Marty. I appreciate it, especially when you are having other issues to deal with!

Re shipped versus your own eggs....you guys must have a much better postal service than us because typically hatch rates on posted eggs here are very very low. You'd be thrilled to get two live hatches from a dozen posted eggs. From your own eggs, you'd expect about 75% or more. Two of my ducks came from posted eggs and that's all I got out of three dozen eggs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marty, I am so sorry to hear about Uno.

So sorry for your loss.

Well, Uno is dead. the girls were freaking out becasue he wasn't in the brooder. Looks like he either got his neck broke by a dog, or from jumping and getting it bend behind him. I'm very bummed, he was getting so big.

I can't imagine the wee dog getting him, but its hard to say. He doesn't like mauled, just his neck back weird.

Cg, I love all of the photos! I think 1, 6, and 7 are my favorite

All right, I've got the receipe. Give me 5 minutes to type it on the thread, and you'll be ready to go bake, cocoa!

The girls are out having a funeral for Uno right now. They've picked numerous daffodils and hyacinths for his poor grave. He's being buried at the edge of the duck pen, by the other turkeys. I'm not near as bummed as the little one, she's feels rather responsible.

WOW!! Pidgey egg internally pipped!! I just finished candling and saw how the bottom side had gone way up into air cell, so I put it in laying flat and while staring at it watched the whole outer surface get dark where I had candled and seen baby inside and then the darkness kept spreading as it continued to move further into air cell. Hey Julie, I thought of what you said about the shells going darker.... but had not noticed that before!

I have a few ancona eggs trying to early pip on me... am thinking they may have gotten a head start since they were very warm when shipped and received. If pidgey egg hatches, it won't have long before it has buddies (assuming I do not have another hatch of death).
