Thread formerly known as Hatch day is today

yeah, I think I'm done with bird loving dogs too.

Yikes. You've got it bad. And there's no real cure for that either. Besides hatching more ducks. Wow. If there's anything I can do, let me know.

Explain.. "Old Fashioned Way"...

I'm using Metzer's webcam as a crutch. I've got two bators going. Not going to get a third unless I get a near sell-out for my pre-sales.

I'm starting to fear a cabinet incubator in my future. Only I'm really concerned that my potential market share can't support the quantity I could do.

Keep an eye on the other cocker though. That's how Annie started out. Just licking them and playing with them. Then she killed one of my ducks and now this bird. She ATE it! So now it's over. She thinks they are food.

Uhg I know. There comes a time when ducks just don't smell good EVER.
Someone suggested this to me too. I don't think it would work on this dog since she already knows it's wrong. She's very smart. She doesn't go near them until I go inside and then she watches for me in the window while she mozies over to the cage. I might try a shock collar at some point. Or email Ceasar Milan. LOL.

I think my almost 3-week old pekins are getting to that stinky phase. Wet feathers and poop aren't on my top list of fragrances.

QJ, sorry about your chicken. Dogs will be dogs. Hope you got your pen secure!
I have a question for hands on hatchers. I have an egg nearing day 26 that I think is backwards and cannot pip. Would you do anything?

Haven't helped a backward baby yet. I'm sure someone here will talk you through it!

hate to say it but every time he would take off after them she would catch him and beat him, and then he got penned in his kennel for an hour or 2

only took 2 times and he hasnt done it since.

Heck, I beat him with a dead chicken more than once...but he was hard-headed and very persistent. If he saw a bird, you could not take his attention away from it.

thats a tough situation.
have you tried a shock collar?

I haven't ever really known anyone that had much luck with a shock collar, and I can't be out there all the time that she is to be able to use one. She's fine as long as I always hook the cable on her before she goes out. The cable is anchored in the center of the yard and she was access to the whole yard, just like the other dogs. She just can't run loose with the other 2 when I let them out to do chores with me.

And in QuackerJack News...

I lost another Swedish Flower Hen. This time to my chicken mauling dog Annie. Somehow she managed to get through the chicken wire and pull a baby through the hardwire. I have fixed the problem. So now she will have to chew through 2 inches of wood. I don't think this will happen, but I'll watch it anyway.

:( It was my only red.

I have bad luck with this breed. That and Lavender Orps. I only have one out of 2 different breeders. Stupid!

Oh no

That is really awful. I'm really sorry. I expect that you are not talking to the dog now. I wouldn't be.
